Wow, that's in good shape. Did you have the bezel and face refurbished?

It was an impulse purchase. I received an email from Amazon that morning offering 20% off certain watches, and this was one of them. I had been pondering one of the Casio solar atomic aviator series, but decided I wanted another ABC watch instead. This also had a much more readable face than the most of the aviator series.

Nope, it's original. I bought it earlier this year from a collector who rarely wore it.

Thanks... I like the styling of that one. I briefly owned a protrek but returned it because the styling didn't appeal to me. Yours looks good.

Nice find!

My 20-year-old black 007 and 15-year-old 009 both look like the veterans that they are. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I can get a new one for about the same as a refurb on my current ones.

I think I *might* get the 009's faded bezel and crystal done. Maybe. I dunno.

The 007? I'm more sentimental about that one--maybe just the beat up crystal. It earned its scars during my time in the Navy, ya know? Still, it's a shame that the crystal looks so bad now.

Nothing wrong with some patina, until function is affected. I think I'd just retire the 007 and leave its wounds and memories intact. Repairing the 009 is a tough call since they're so cheap new, as you said.

I have a 009 but don't wear it much. For some reason, we never really bonded. I've been thinking of modding it to make it more interesting to me. If I do, I'll hook you up with some parts.

Scott

(I did wear it today, though.)

Leaving the 007 alone is probably the best choice. The 009's day indicator is a great value adder. Where your Pepsi bezel is nice and red, mine is a light pink.

I look forward to seeing how your mod'd watch turns out, if you go that way. Having some parts will probably nudge me into working on my watch. I'm fortunate to have a good watch guy locally.

+1. The ordering process is...unusual. Kinda like when I bought a new BMW moto. I ordered the Ocean Vintage Military: as much of a field watch as a diver style. It's excellent. Keeps great time, feels very SUBstantial ;-)

Good to see this thread come back to life.

Anybody had any luck beating the snot out of a Tritium faced watch and had it stand up?

It's the only type of face I can read in the dark with old eyes and no specs.
