I know whereof you speak. I owned a Hawk GT from '89 to '99. (imagine an SV, but with alum. delta box frame, alum. single side swing arm, shorter wheelbase, lighter weight, sharper steering, & Honda build quality). It was a great commuter, super track bike, & superb weekend warrior. Back then it was called "the poor man's Ducati". The one fly in the ointment? I've always had an academic vacation schedule & could always take at least two, multi week, tours every year. All the things that made me love the Hawk around home made it marginal for a tour. No weather protection, limited luggage capacity, tiring after hours on the slab, sharp steering in the twisties translated to twitchiness on those day-long slogs of interstate, etc, etc. (plus, I was not getting any younger). I managed, but it was never optimal. I overcompensated by buying a Sport Tourer, which turned out to be comfy, but heavy & lumbering by comparison. For me, the GSX 650 F turned out to be the perfect compromise.
