1999 BMW R1100S telelever / trailer arm

Hi All.
Not sure where to navigate to. I just crashed my 1999 R1100S. I am OK. Bike not so OK... Snapped forks & bent telelever. I scored new forks no problem. My question is: will any front trailer arm work on my bike or am I stuck trying to find one specific to my model bike? Needless to say, I cannot afford to buy the part new.
thanks in advance
Marcus

Looking for a thread- tried the search to no avail...

Hi-

I am looking for thread that was nearly 100 pages long and it dealt with a highly sophisticated modification to the "mapping" of R bikes to modify the lean mix that is controlled by the brain.

It was a link on AdV that was authored by some very knowledgeable guys who then went on to sell this product-

Does anyone know the whereabouts of this?

thanks

SS

it was a more sophisticated product-
I think the approach was software based
with similar goals....

You have great taste. This was undoubtedly my favorite bike in 25 years of riding....160k miles of smiles before selling her off. Plenty of times I wish I had another 20 hp to play with but other than that I'd been all over this continent and met lots of new people with her.

Not 100 pages, but this tread by roger 04 RT has a lot of information on the fuel injection on the R bikes:

I think he now sells a mod through the Boneyard

found the link...

This link is the longest I have ever seen and it is very technical

These pros have created a very successful product which addresses many of the R1100S problems. Other companies make similar but not identical products. One thing is for sure, the cost of this item has them all beat.

Paralever mod ... do it myself ?

I have seen the info and threads about the shorter paralever .
The $ for the adjustable seems crazy high to me .

I don't seem to be able to locate the GS shorter one (actually not sure what year GS arm I should be looking for)

That said I found a stock one for super cheap on ebay and am thinking I could modify it . maybe just go 10mm shorter or 20mm ... or a double hole relocation so that I can do 10 or 20 as I see needed.

I am handy with grinders, drill presses and have a mig welder .
Am I crazy to think I need to reinvent this or ... ?

Para-Leverage

The Boxer Cup and Prep both came with a shorter lever than the standard S's.

You want most anything technical answered, go join (free) and ask at The Pelicanparts Forum.
A good bunch of coconuts that have done it all: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-r1100s-r1200s-tech-forum/

I wouldn't go this route - these things are under a lot of stress and if they fail, you go down. It's really not very hard to find the right one that is slightly shorter from another BMW model (all the GS's from the same era - about 1999 to 2005 - work well) and even when bought directly from BMW, they're not terribly expensive.

FWIIW, I did this mod when I had my S and used it for a couple years and then went back to stock. The change in handling is not dramatic unless you start going much shorter and if you do start going crazy, you end up with angles in the back that probably put undue stresses on things. And you'll have both side-stand and center-stand length issues if you stray very far from stock.

My new-to-me 00 R1100R modeled by my Russian devuchka, Dasha, who we adopted along with her younger sister, Yana. They arrived in the US on 2/4/13.

The bikes in excellent condition cosmetically, but the neutral light and horn dont work. It also needs a cam chain tensioner upgrade. Im glad to be back on a boxer. I miss my R1100RS.[IMG][/IMG]
