They are known to come to the states every once in a while. I rode mine thru Columbus OH saturday on my way back home.

But honestly they dont sell super well here so chances are they wont sell them in the US.

Great bike btw, love mine.

...can a versys 1k be purchased in canada and registered in the united states, in my case new york state?

if so, what are the added hassles and added costs that i need to go through?

Many of us wish that was the case with many bikes, sadly it is not unless the bike is for racing or museum use only, ie never registered for use on public roads.

It sucks, foreigners can buy bikes here and take them home to ride, this happens on a very large scale. But we cannot do the same for bikes/cars purchased outside the country.

You would need a letter of conformity from the Kawasaki representative in Canada, since US rep may not provide one. You could ask though.

Once you get the letter the procedure should be pretty straightforward. Brought a couple of vehicles to Canada and guess the process ain't much different for other direction.

[edit] Also mind the speedo on motors from Canada could be in km/h only

Which I don't understand, as I love mine too. Kawasaki stated upon introduction that they weren't going to build a motorcycle for a market that was largely illusionary - i.e. riding your GS around the world, when the worst most will see is the Alcan (and I ride my FZ1 on that...) or maybe the Dempster - and maybe Kawasaki was wrong. Maybe the market is mostly about image, and people will pay a lot extra for that. I think GS, KTM, etc. are fine bikes, but the Versys 1000 is a great bike and value for real world use.
