The shortened race suggestion must be true. Riders quotes are coming out. None seem to like the idea of a pit stop, they think it will be too dangerous.

Lorenzo suggests two half distance races. Rossi suggests just a single half distance race like in Moto 2.

Motogp.com says Redding is ruled out of the race, fractured left wrist.

Redding out?

Matthew Birt says on Twitter that Redding won't start the race.

And that Lorenzo has argued against a mandatory pitstop.

Half-length races in both Moto2 and MotoGP would be pretty disappointing. And all because the resurfaced track is too good.

Perhaps they will go for two races. But then, how do they count the first? Only way surely is to add the gaps to times in the second. Which means the winner over the line in the second would not necessarily win.

Here is the full details for tommorow's flag 2 flag MotoGP race in Australia.

We have been notified by Bridgestone that they are unable to guarantee safety of their rear slick tyres beyond 14 laps. It has therefore been decided to make the following changes to the MotoGP class race in the interests of the safety of the riders.

1. The race distance will be 26 laps.

2. Every rider will be required to enter the pits and change to his second machine with fresh tyres at least once during the race.

3. No rider is permitted to make more than 14 laps on any one slick rear tyre. This means that a bike/tyre change before lap 12 will require a second bike/tyre change to finish the race.

4. Riders using “Factory” and “Satellite” machines will be required to use the “hard” option tyre (B51DR). Extra quantity will be allocated by Bridgestone.

5. Riders using CRT machines will be required to use CRT “hard” option tyre (B50DR). Extra quantity will be allocated by Bridgestone.

6. The pit lane speed limit zone will be extended both on entry and exit, and the exit route to rejoin the track will be marked by a white line in the runoff area. Crossing this line whilst rejoining the track from pit lane will result in a penalty.

Race Direction

19th. October 2013
What a mess.

Greetings from Phillip Island.
The clerk of the course announced to us a couple of hours ago the details of the mandatory pit stop. It should make for an even more exciting race. It will be interesting to see if the weather plays a part in the result.
Two riders transported to hospital this afternoon.

I suppose Warmup will be spent with riders rehearsing to jump from a motorcycle to another...

What an utter cock up.

And with factories in that part of the world, this is the solution they offer up? Blame the teams, provide no other options but to run half-distances?

Corporate ass covering 101.

This will make for some interesting fueling calculations.

Put in 13 liters on each bike, and run it WFO, fuel economy be damned.

If you're not worried about race distance for tire conservation and fuel range, then it could make for an interesting weekend.

That being said, running the second bike could cause problems too. Was reading on Krop's site that after the bolt came out of Dani's bike, he had to ride the second bike, which had totally different geometry, that in turn slowing him down. Can they match the two by race time?

An interesting weekend ahead for Hayden too .. a little harder to do an engine swap during a pit stop.
