Would you entertain the idea of interested party bringing you the two bikes and doing the swap?

I would be willing to talk about it. Not my first choice but not out of the question.

My current rough plan (highly subject to change of course) is to build one more based on a 2012 or 2013 chassis and either sell it or the '09 that I already built, or both. I've always though I'd always keep the '05, but I sure enjoyed riding the '09 up to Hyder AK and back.

I wish you had come further north to Anchorage. I would loved to have seen your bike. Maybe D2D next year!?!?

I don't know about next year, I'm planning on heading towards Maine in late spring, but one of these days. I've heard that once you've been to Alaska you're always planning the next trip back and I'm feeling it.

another wicked cool thread/build where the dumfukk peanut gallery chimes in w/some sidewalk superintendant BS!.... this place is amazing... definitely is a serious downside to this forum, there's alotta real nice people here, but the loosers really bring it down a notch... i guess it makes it more like reality TV...

you got some serious skill, dooder! great looking bike!... those exhausts are absolutely beautiful!.... i bet w/the suspension mods, it handles great!....

Thanks. The suspension mods help a lot in the way the bike rides. Between that and the engine swap it doesn't ride anything like a KLR anymore, but you still have all that nice legroom, nice flat seat you can slide around on, all the things I liked about it in the first place. Willie said it best right after his first ride on his bike, "All the things I loved about the KLR are still there, and all the things I hated about it are gone."

KLR with versys motor

It's probably my fault but the big number of pages of the thread just discouraged me.

O.K questions:

1- How long (hours) you need to put out the KLR motor and put the versys in the frame (KLR frame), modified the airbox, fuel pump, radiator, or other things ?

2- Did the bike keep the off road capacity (I'm pretty sure) of the KLR and did you modified the shock rate (better spring or just dump the rear shock of the KLR) and how the frame take the extra power of the versys motor ?

3- Did you need to weld or bend the original frame of the KLR ?

4- Did you do new frame mount ? Did the original swing arm do the job with the extra power ? How much more weight the bike have ?

5- It seem you do a kind of transfer gas tank to fit the fuel pump (fuel injection need) and how much fuel capacity you got now ? And the autonomy are still comparable to KLR (probably a little less) ?

6- Did you plan to gave a little more cc to the motor (800 cc, just to gave BMW a shame) and dis the versys motor are borable ?

7- Did you put the bike in the difficult trail, muds, rocks, tight turns, off-road capacity are better or equal the KLR ?

8- How much the project cost ?

That's a real nice accomplishment and why Kawi don't do this bike instead the KLR is a mystery for me, shouldn't cost a lot in development they already have good frame (KLR) and the motor of the Versys are proof so, WHY?

"Why?" is right... But real the question is "Why?" would someone ask these questions!

Apparently someone who is simply too lazy and impatient to actually read a measly 17 pages, yet has the audacity to ask KLRsys to take a bunch of time and expend a lot of extra effort to type out answers to questions already answered in detail throughout the thread.

Mind numbing. Too lazy to read...

Wait until you find some of the ADVrider threads that are a couple of *THOUSAND* pages, Ninja! Imagine how "discouraged" you'll be then!

Meanwhile, you should take the time to do your own homework and take the 15 or 20 minutes necessary to actually read the thread. The answers to all your questions are right there.

Dallara

^^^^^ Yep.... +1.... I've read all of the KLRsys thread, Africa Twin thread, Transalp thread, DR350 Thread, KLR650 thread, and several others plus ride reports and more. I love this stuff. But some just don't get it.
