USA Gear Weather "Resistant" GPS Handle Bar Case/Pics
I bought this USA GPS Case for my bike.I hesitate to call it waterproof,so I'll refer to it as weather resistant. You'll understand why by looking at the pics. For $16 or so with shipping,it's a good deal, not great, but good.
Pros:Cheap. The window fits the Nuvi screen just right and doesn't stick to it like some others I have seen.Plenty of padding to take up the slack.Easy to dismount case with GPS inside.Adjustable angle with the ability to adjust tension on the mount. It can be mounted without the need for tools. It will fit bars from 7/8in(22mm) to 1 1/8in(29mm).
Cons:There isn't a lot of adjustment in the angle of the mount. This can make it difficult to remove the case from the mount. The charging wire hole doesn't seal around the wire. The foam pads don't allow the use of the charging cord.No tools are required to remove it,easily stolen, but cheaply replaced. The case is prone to fogging inside and out.
Making it better:To reduce fogging,I packed desiccant packs into the notches of the foam pads.I got the desiccant packs from shoe boxes.I think a piece of inner tube cut to fit the bottom of the inside of the case would probably help waterproof the case.It will need a small hole punched in the center to allow for the wire to pass through.I cut the foam to allow for my charging cord connector.Use a new sharp razor blade to make the cuts easy.
Another note.Don't leave the case on the bike without the GPS in it.I left the empty case on my bike, and the sun shining on it caused the foam to curl up.Now it's fiddly to get the foam to stay in place while putting the GPS in.
To remove the case push the little tab back and slide the case up and out.
Ben's finally thought.Don't expect ram mount performance from a cheapo GPS mount and case.
