Tundra Swans, the seasons about over.

I got the grey ghost out and ran her around a bit and as usual I wonder if this one shouldn't have been the tug, it's not a real adv so it has the OD 6th transmission, but it's a hot rod and has lots of power.

I switched to 175/65/15 rear tire and tug wheel on the sidecar rig.The little 24" tires are 2mph slower for the same engine speed.
Tomorrows the Swan Ride where the twin cities riders gather for breakfast and ride down to Alma WI and see if any Tundra Swans have stopped on their migration to Chesapeake Bay http://www.wingsoveralma.org/naturee...swanwatch.html Though in recent years they have moved to other parts of the river valley.DB

More tundra swan infohttp://www.greatriver.com/swan.htm

Swan Ride minus the Swans

Cold and windy day for the twin cities guys and a few of us others to head to Alma WI to look for Tundra Swans.
The truth of the matter is there where allot of Swans across the river on the MN side and they don't really use their original food stop in near Alma much, sw two there when we arrived at 10:15 along way off and they were leaving.

Propably close to a hundred rider showed up in several different groups everything from soup to nuts, mostly Wings, HD, several trikes,2 sidecars.

Antique Indain and a PC

What would Johnny Cash do ?

These guys own Ducati's and BMW's but don't always ride them.

No swans !

Where would you find a PC,Indian,Chopped 70's Sportster,DR650 and Wing all parked together ?

Intrepid sidecar dog Just N Time, the wind blew 30 gusting to over 45 mph had the sun not been out it would have been miserable.
trip began at 34 degrees and ended at about 54 given all the wind and the beginning of daylight savings time I was glad to get the day over with.DB

Breakfast Pier 4 Alma WI.

Nope that's Mary from Mora, a woman whom I have been unable to drive away, she was in a sidecar yesterday in 40 degree weather going 92 mph.DB

In that cool temp & at that hot mph......now the only question is, does she lean ?
Different bikes all going in the same direction, only thing missing was a Ural.

Dec 1 ride and or Drone may be right ! I'm a dumbass !

I doubt Drone is right about me, but it was one of those days I dressed like I was 34 to ride in 30 degree weather, I'm 64 and need more clothes now.

One of my favorite Min Maint. Rds I was disappointed to find a water crossing that's always a challenge in the spring replaced by a bridge.
That and I forgot to charge battery in Lumix and only got two images, we went down thru Whitewater Wildlife Area to Weaver searching for Tundra Swans, they've all left the area for Chesapeake Bay.
We did find several great American buzzards (Bald Eagles) sitting in trees near the Mississippi but today they all where out of camera range.

So I'm left with these two a Scandinavian and a German and the endless lack of color in MN this time of year everything in various shades of grey or brown.
We left at 37 degrees came home 108 miles later at 37 and to me it was unusually damp and cold piss and moan.
On a more positive note, Claude you build a great rig it flew up down and around on mostly gravel today(slower and warmer)an after not ridding it for a couple weeks I'm still really impressed with the way it goes.DB

Hi Ho Hi Ho off to Claudes we go !

Well below zero waiting to go see it's father.

At Freedom Sidecars waiting for it's father.

Hard to see but , it just came from car wash to get salt off it has about an 1/8" of ice covering the entire machine, start button froze.
Rig is in PA to get leading link fork built.I got a look at Claude's single sided swingarm setup that enables use of 17"BMW wheels front, back, sidecar a pretty nice plan actually and will or would be my next plan if I didn't have one of Strokers Advantage wheels we would be doing it now.
I also looked at the no telelever LL fork setup an liked it better than I thought I would, it looks strong enough and isn't overly complicated.
The weather was awful here in MN and got worse there and the drive home had a real nightmare quality. Speed limit of 40's from Akron Oh to the south side of Chicago 3/4" of ice and glazing on every E-W road below zero and 20+ mph cross wind this arctic vortex thing is greeeeat !
Monday night in Lima Oh motel room heat pump couldn't get room above 50's left at 5 AM and had breakfast at the Waffle House with no heat, the poor Buckeyes where suffering and not very happy.DB
