kelly, glad to see you stopped by. for years, i heard about gold point but never really planned anything to go there. then jason and the m2w crew made it happen..........

zach was in tow and made sure i get back to camp

we picked up a straggler (darrel on his explorer 1200) on the way back

getting late, and the last stretch of dirt highway to goldpoint

though our ride was cut short, i feel better that i didn't have any broken bone or injury requiring surgery. not to be taken for granted, luck was on my side that saturday.

too sore to ride sunday, made myself useful. steve who rode from floriday want to get some shots before he leaves. great guy!

Glad it wasn't more serious Joel! Nice shots of the Florida KLR, and the photo of Rich is definitely a classic...

Thumb Gold Point, NV (October 18-19, 2013)

Rob and I left Corona, CA Thursday morning around 9:30 am. We wouldn't arrive at Gold Point, NV until approx 4:30 pm.

The drive was pretty mellow except for a CHP officer pulling up to us as we were already pulled over the side of the 127. I'd just finished taking a shit over that hill and was several paces from making it back to the truck. LoL He asked if everything was alright, I gave him a cool s and he took off.

We pulled in around 4:30, setup camp, went to dinner...then drinks...then told some lies...more drinks...then went to bed. Sorry no pics.

Joel showed up Friday morning as planned and we we're all excited to finally ride. Today, we're headed to Death Valley.

Rob...

The main group had left around half an hour before us. I had tracks to DV I found on gpxchange. These tracks didn't help us on the ride out. Some of the roads just weren't there so we winged it and just headed west.

We finally made it to Death Valley Rd. Time for a re-group then southward to Tea Kettle Junction and beyond...(well kind of)...

We came across a few of these...

On the road to Tea Kettle Junction...

Joel...

Rob...

Made it. Not many tea kettles this time around. The NPS must've recently taken them down...

Coming up to the Race Track...

Since daylight was running out we decided to head back. Onward! To the crater...

Shadows are getting longer...time to pick it up...

Back onto DV Rd...

Gold Point is over yonder...

That's the end of day 1 (Friday). Stay tuned for day 2...

I just got back from Jarbidge Nevada and am planning a group street ride for the first time to Gold Point on Nov 2nd, followed by Death Valley.

Great Info here, I'll share it and the killer photos with my mamby pamby elder street riding group.

You should contact /confirm with Herb BEFORE showing up with a group. He generally does not welcome group rides without prior planning. Allows him to plan food, etc. He also rents the town out for other events so that could have an impact also. FWIW: Jason at My2Wheels has worked hard to build a relationship with Herb.

Just my $.02

I've Been following this Thread from the start, looks like you guys had a blast. I'm really bummed out that I missed it, I've been working outside the US for 4 months now (to buy bigger, newer bikes! ) Hopefully the next one that Rozar puts together is soon and I'm in town for it.

The ones hanging from the sign? That's as close as we got on our Thursday ride.

Question Question

One of the loops shown has the group riding down lippencott and then back into the valley via Hunter Mountain.

What was the condition of the washout at the bottom of south pass, last time we saw anything about it was a huge ravine across the road.

Anyone have pictures of that specific trouble spot?

Current condition? All the posted ride reports don't say anything about that loop from what I have read so far.

I am not very familiar with the area but we did not encounter any washouts on this route and road conditions were fine. I can send you the actual track log if you want to look closer.

If I'm not mistaken the huge washout you speak of is north pass - north of the hot springs on Saline Valley Road. We saw pics from Jim and Finn when they were out that way. Can get thru on a dualsport, but they thought it might be pretty tough on a big bike, definitely a road bike.

Are you going out to PSR for t-day again this year?

Yup will be there for the long weekend with the 4x4 plan to prerun the loop and see conditions myself before hand if able.

juan, even on street bikes you'll have a nice time. herb, walt and red are great hosts. the saloon is the perfect place to hangout when it's cold outside.

best of all, the beers and sodas are free..and i'm not kidding..
