Replace a 2 lead fuel pump with a 4 lead one.

I have a bad fuel pump on a v30 magna. This is a 2 lead pump. I happen to have a good one off a vulcan classic, with the same dimension, but it has 4 leads.
I am guessing there is an internal relay that gets enerized from the starter button, or maybe it is connected to fault switches (clutch, or sidestand).

In any case, I can get the pump to run but just twisting the right wires together, but would it be a bad idea to do so? (leaving the internal relay energized all the time?)

If there are four wires, two are normally for a fuel gauge, at least on every other vehicle on the planet. Therefore, you can just figure out which wires run the pump and ignore the gauge wires.

Does the Kawi pump have any sort of fuel gauge mechanism attached?

However, I'm not familiar with the particular Honda or Kawasaki pumps you mention. You'd be best off consulting a wiring diagram for the Vulcan pump.
