Ah for the perfect rig. I follow along here in hacks a lot trying to learn. I read and read but not much sinks in. I go against the grain a bit and feel I can make my rig work my self, read cheap bastard here. Well not so far, unrideable and dangerous Of course I have not put much time into it yet, several weeks last winter, much measuring and welding stuff to an old piece of shit bike and a heavy Ural car. Filled my pants on the first ride, is that the Zen part? I got busy when spring hit, I do have a busy shop to run and a race car to prep and run and oh yeah bikes to ride. The rig got moth balled till I could gather more info and decide if it is worth risking life and limb just to satisfy a lust. Hmmm that single brain cell that actually works in that empty space between my ears kicked in this spring, and I found a nice 1200GS that was just begging me to buy it. So now where do I proceed, I love the GS just the way it is, never rode one before so had no idea and my beloved ST is feeling neglected, weeping a bit of coolant just to get my attention. But the hack is what I stare at when there is time to go to the shop and sit and think. I think I need help

I can say this..I bought a rig put together and have been fixing ever since..This is the only way my wife & I can ride...Its true They are never done..I'm replacing my subframe and adding a swaybar this winter..Your GS would make a nice tug...Good luck and go for it...

That was the plan, but now I have the GS so the plan has changed. I moved the mounts around on the CX until I had it as bad as I could, then gave up. I had a whole new design thought up that should, " key word should" work. Then I found the GS so I get to start again. The snow is just about to hit here so that is when I get time to go putter. There are ready made mounts for the GS so it should be easy-peasy. Still I am stubborn and a bit contankerous so I may stick to the plan.

Yes I tried to get a hold of Brock, but he never returned any Emails or calls, plus Calvin who has a very nice rig of Brock's creation said the same thing, this summer. I heard rumour that he was taking a break so didn't pursue it any more. Not sure, all 3rd party so don't take it as gospel. Just spent the last while on the Freedom site, hmmm Visa card is empty at the moment, and we just had a good month at the shop. Dreams of sugar plums are not far off.

Yes gimme a call if you have time. We will try and help you out...heck if nothing else we can talk racing some. I ran sprint cars and midgets full time for quite a while and did quite a bit of building with the things also. Call in th evening if you wish 570 837 5182. Yeah we have parts and pieces and all that on hand. Are hacks ever done? Yes, if you want to ride more than tinker! Can they always be made to be better? Yes but how far do you want to go. Build a good one and just ride the darn thing! LOL.

Uralogy

Well today I was busy trying to learn a bit about Urals helping a friend change his Ural a bit,he'd had it 3 yrs and assumed they all drove badly.
The paint hadn't been disturbed and the damn thing was together tight,but basically the dealer had sent it out with the toe straight and the tug leaning in a degree.It was a fight to get it loose and moveable ended up with 3/8" toe in and leaned the tug out 2 degrees, I had to go but he did call and said it was pretty neutral and much improved and now that I'm getting the hang of it we may have to try and get the sidecar frame leveled. So it came from a dealer in MN that's service dept is not the envy of the nation, and it would seem everybody has an opinion on how Urals should be aligned.Thanks Claude.DB

Aren't Ural rigs fun to mess with.I just helped a friend pull apart & put it back together agin after a nice fender bender..Did the mechanics & another did the body work...They are interesting.....

That would do it for me !!!! Definitely the second guy to buy my Ducati Elefant in or around fleabay begged off with a made up excuse (probably angling for a better price) I'm thoroughly pissed.
I don't know whats more unreliable DMC's early GS rigs or Fleabay motors grrrr ! woof !

I'd guess DMC earlier rigs..Why because I own one...Thats why Claudes getting it after the first of the year...
