It's still not official so.. who knows.
300 is the new 250, so anything is possible.

You should check out the article on Rideaparts website...
"It’s been rumored that this bike could form a platform for multiple models, some as large as 350cc and form the lynchpin of Triumph’s efforts to it’s expand global sales volume to 250,000 units annually by 2016."

Apparently Honda is now officially confirming the specs that everyone already knew about on the 300.

4.5 HP should make a difference. I loved my 250 but I also wished I had another 5 HP on tap. Problem solved with the 300. It should be a great little bike.

"Honda claims an output of 30.4 hp at 8500 rpm and 19.9 ft-lb. at 7250 rpm."

Just from a business standpoint, why would Honda intro a bike almost 5hp under it's direct competition? In bikes this small 5 hp makes it around 17% less than the Ninja 300. I mean the CBR250 may have edged the Ninja 250 on the FI basis, possibly on low end torque. But now that Kawi has stepped up it's game....Honda should be dropping a 350 just to keep up. Possibly they want to keep a well defined gap between it and the 500's and they felt a 350 would be to high?

I think that's exactly it. Honda's not trying to put a track competitive bike out there, but a fun affordable bike that is built well and reliable.

I think they've shown with their superbikes that they can and will make track-ready bikes, but just not with the 300s or 500s.

Honda is also known for reliability. They may not have wanted to stress the original 250 design too much by jumping 100cc. Baby steps.
900, 919, 929, 954, 1000. We have seen this before.

Klay - you should come out with us this summer for a small displacement tour (camping) we're planning. Bring the DR200 if you still have it. I'll let you take more spins on the CBR150R. :)

Just as before. The CBR is a fuel efficient all around daily driver. The Ninja is the faster toy but uses 20% more fuel and is priced much higher in India and East Asia where the majority of CBR250R sales are.
.
It was only possible to add another 37 cc's to the stroke of the existing engine without a complete redesign. If you want a bigger highway bike then you can buy one of the very reasonably priced Honda 500's.

Why not the Ninja 300? Is the single cylinder engine the major factor? I'd think the Honda will still be far enough out of the performance range of the Ninja and Duke and won't hold anything over the Kawi suspension/frame wise.

If the KTMs are typical of their Austrian built cousins, I'd expect them to outpace any of the others in quality and performance in every regard with the Ninja solidly in second place.

Don't know about prices where you people are at, but the Yamaha MT07,
which is a 75hp twin costs just a few hundred more then the Ninja 300 here.

Prices were just announced.
