There is virtually no development for the new Maxx though. I don't miss it since it works so well.

I believe you were the rude one, telling everyone what to do with their phone. DO THIS! DO THAT! Without explaining any benefit. Some of those things make sense for some of the people reading your post, but nobody is going to do them because you didn't explain any of them.

One of the main things that is keeping me from rooting my S4 is the Samsung camera app has some really nice affects. When I rooted my Incredible 2 I couldn't find a camera app that worked nearly as well as the stock HTC app.

Rooting your phone isn't going to change your camera app. Flashing a new ROM will....but you can root and stay on the stock ROM....that's how I do it.

Why stick with the stock ROM after rooting? What benefits are there of rooting if you are going to stay stock?

Being able to run apps that require root....such as Tasker, Titanium Backup and Sixaxis (so I can use a PS3 controller to play games). Being able to modify system files (which allows me to use teethering without paying the extra fee). Remove bloatware apps that come preinstalled on my phone.

Because I'm rooted my phone does so many things automatically thru Tasker.....

backup everynight
turn GPS on and off with apps that use it
send a text to my GF when my battery is low
when earphones are plugged in starts my media program, turns the volume to a certain level and plays
turns on wifi at certain locations and connects
etc

Many, many advantages to rooting even if your staying stock

Or people will use Google and do their own research as I did...

I'm already using Tasker and Automate It Pro pretty heavily without being rooted. When rooted I used to have Tasker reboot my phone every night, but now with the S4 I might re-boot it once every 2-3 weeks. S4 is much more stable.

I can also disable those bloatware apps. Can't remove them, so they are taking up some minimal amount of space, but they aren't running or updating.

Tethering/wifi hotspot is already included in my Verizon account whether I like it or not, so there's no extra fee these days..

When I rooted my Incredible 2, it made no sense, to me, to stick with the stock rom. I think I'd feel the same way with my S4. Except for the Camera App. I have yet to run into one that works as well as or is a flexible the stock units. Both for my S4 and Incredible 2.

I've had enough of this Kyocera, I've only added 3 apps to it.
Disabled the ones that I never use (google books, news stand and so on) and any time one of the apps I use tries to update there is "insufficient storage"

I go back in, remove the updates to the unused apps. Disable them (again) and update my shit.
Just to have the same thing happen again a few days later.

Think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy a Moto X at retail.
Or just put my EVO 4G back into service.

That is just one issue with the "smartphone" Kyocera makes.
The list goes on.

If you're buying at retail price do you use the internet a lot? Would 3G be alright? Because there's a great phone that's 200 dollars for 16GB just no 4G radio is the one downside:

I returned my Note 3..

had to take it back several times for issues...final straw was that it wouldn't stay connected to my air rave.

Glad I didn't sell off my 4s.

No thanks on the budget smartphone, that is how I ended up with this turd.

I thought I'd be fine with something that was just a little slower, or had a few less features.
And if this was a properly working smartphone I'd be fine.

But it's not. It lags, freezes, hiccups and refuses to save much of anything to the SD card.
Set it up however you like, it will reset itself over night.

I have not rooted it, because I figure I'll just make it worse because I don't know what I'm doing.
But now I'm not so sure.

Don't take offence, but why Kyocera? They're not a renewed cell phone manufacturer.

Have you considered a Nexus 5 (or even a discounted Nexus 4)?
