I guess what you are saying is that she is behaving as if you leaving the choke on then after she heats up she will splutter and die?
I will lower her idling a little tomorrow. to see if that is the issue.

Main 175
Pilot 65S
Hot cam stage 1
aftermarket insert for stock pipe.
Fully uncorked
900m above sea-level
30 degrees C today.
New valves but Valve clearance checked twice and they are in speck.

Thanx for the advice.
pilot is too low. if you have a 68s, put it in, might even need the 70s with the hotter cam in it.

Cool Thanx for quick reply,

I played around with Jetting today.

I had a half cutout air box( just top triangle) closed it off today and then put 65 back in. she started easier with 65 than 68.

The trick is that today was a "cold" day here it normally goes upto 35-40 degrees C here and then the 68 would be too rich.... i think?

Um so it seams the issue is the same even though i have swopped pilot jets.

PS needle is on forth clip.

fuel screw 2 turns out.

I will tweak the settings a little tomorrow and let you know how she runs.
thanx again for the advice,

XR650R High rise bars. How high?

When I stand up for extended periods I find I have to bend over too far. As a result, Im looking at adding some hi-rise bars to my XR such as ATV bars with a 4.5" rise and perhaps a handlebar riser.

How high can I go before the cables need replacing?
Whats the highest other people are running?

I run rox risers 2", they help, but I still need to go higher. I'm 6'4.

Pastrana fmx with big bar adapters are the tallest you can go without cable extensions. I run these. They are a bit narrow and have almost no pullback. Still a bit crammed but good enough.

[QUOTE=Johann XR650R;23024295][QUOTE=mitchn06;22675718]I remember one time after I had the carb completely apart and struggled hardcore to start it. Ended up being idle screw being turned out way too far, even thigh it seemed right. Started at half throttle, the. I knew it was way off. That's all I got for you.

Good day Mitch.
I got the pig started! yeaha. but she then idles for a short while then dies. Could it be that the float level is off? its really freaky. Today i changed back to stock tank. then tried it again. Same story. started on second kick, idles for a about 1min then died. Now i cannot get her started! aarrrggghhh not sure what else to check.

is she maybe running too lean and this then heats her up? not sure 1min would not overheat her....

Mine will run for quite some time with the taps turned off - certainly more than a minute
Put a rag under the carby, take the float bowl cap off (inspect for foreign matter while it's off) and turn on the taps fuel should flow out freely.
If not find out why
If it does its doubtfull a float level issue

Cool thanx JM

I took carb off again today, checked for obvious airbox boot leaks. cleaned out all breather pipes, cleaned out jets and float needle seat.

I just had lunch, will start her afterwards, it feels like school final exams waiting for report card hoping that you passed. the proof will be a happy leg. i.e. she starts easily.

PS re-checked valve clearances again. was in spec.

Thank you all for advice will let you know shortly ( JM and Mitch) and the rest.

I use Rox raisers the ones that pivot. If you just use std raisers it cramps the cockpit as the bars moves closer to you. you need something that will raise it and move it away from you.

rox-speed-fx-pivoting-handlebar-risers ( need to turn throttle so that the cables enter at the bottum instead of the top, to ensure stock cables reach.

See if can get the dealer to give you a trail run before buying it.

YOOOYAAA! it worked she starts!

not sure what it was. it may have been the idle screw set to low. or it may have been a clogged breather hose! she runs! seemingly with no hick-ups! and restarts!

I cannot remember when i prayed so much for something to work!

Thank you all for advice!

Hope you all have a good week-end and post many riding pics. and trip reports on monday!

I don't believe that it's beneficial on a stock motor.
