Low miles, good shape, aftermarket windshield, flush turn signals, interesting paint job, crash bars, full bags (and obviously the racks to carry them)...

I see nothing wrong.

$3700 is less than the price of most clean thumpers you could buy. You could spend double that amount on a different ADV "type" bike and not get one that clean with that equipment and low miles.

Do it.. do it before someone else does... If it needs a better Clutch or Power Commander and pipes it's still the best "value" deal you'll find.

In fact you can add just a few things to it and finish the dialing in and still be in it real cheap.. Which is the greatest asset of the V-Strom... Price and reliability..

Everything svs said is true.

But, you have to know this is the first model and it has different windscreen, and not painted frame and lower alternator output, and no light turn-off while starting the engine.

Intersting paint job. I like different colours combination for tank and side covers.

Yup. A friend of mine has the pre 2004 DL1000. He's super jealous that I can run the MadStad bracket for smoother airflow on my 2004 DL650.

$3700 is a decent price, not a steal. I'd offer the seller $3400 and meet in the middle. 'Custom' paint means the bike has been layed down....granted we all do that, but it still should effect it's resale value. Is it a solid bike? Sure. Is 19,000 miles low? Yes. But I would still get it for less.

I paid $3200 with full Givi's for my 20,000 mile 2004 DL650. My friend paid $3400 for his 2002 DL1000.

Sure, you see the older models (2002-2005) listed for $4500 or more, but they're not selling easily at that price.

Thanks guys for the great info! I added some more pictures.
I was under the assumption that the paint was factory because
the bags where the same color. His add says OBO so I thing I can talk him down some. Please share if you guys can think of anything else.

Yup. Bet he'd take $3500. That would be a good deal.

At the end of the day....these are tough bikes that can easily do 100,000 miles with simple maintence.

I have an 05 weestrom, and it came with the stck screen as well as the oem larger one
I had massive wind disturbance so I got the madstat bracket
That helped a decent amt but I still had a lot of wind noise and buffeting
Changed mirrors for the aprilla ones, not much difference
The madstat helps with buffering but noise is bad, I've tried different helmets too
If I had a slightly taller screen I think I'd be ok
What would be a few inches taller and good for ramping wind over than the suzuki touring one?

Adjusted clutch today, only moved push rod 1/4 turn and made a big difference

Anyone do their own fork rebuild here? I'm looking at the 'special tool' required to hold the inner rod, and wondering if something can be made to do the job or if I should just order the tool.

Here's the part number in question, also need an extension handle for it

I've been wondering the same thing. The Suzuki DR650 guys figured it out by adding a correct sized nut to a bolt and another tapered lock nut. I have one of theses home-made damper rod tools/nuts, but haven't had a chance to see if the DL650 is the same size.

Something like that might do it. Every other thread here has a way around that tool it seems. Klr250 is an upside down spark plug socket, and xr650r is some ground down plumbing parts. I haven't found the strom yet though, and I've been looking.

The tools only seem to be $75 or so if I remember right, so I might go that route. Still cheaper than a dealer.

I bet that once you get the fork apart.....you'll see very quickly what it will take. It's just a matter of using a different sized nut on the home-made tool above.

If I could get it out an look at it I'm sure. I believe though without that tool I can't get it apart to even look.

I had to repair the Drain Plug Threads.. 2004 DL 1000 with 58,400 miles... Heli Coil repair performed by R-Cal Racing in Huntington Beach.. Thanks Rick.

The Suzuki dealer I got the bike from said "It Happens" and Rick at R-Cal said the threads should last forever as long as you never cross them or "over-torque" the drain plug...

Basically Shit happens... And don't over torque your drain plug..
