Laugh Applejam, I like the way you think.

"It's easy to ride with others that are not in hurry to get somewhere, it's harder when someone has too much 'schedule'. I tend not to overplan or schedule, and let each day fold itself out as it may. I ride fast, but I'm never in a hurry. I'm on vacation when I ride, so no stress is allowed."

Lets get a vote on dates

I vote for August 27th going into Labor Day weekend as required for the chosen ride. Once we agree on dates we can decide which route to take (in case the Cascade Route seems overwhelming to any of us).

Any who are seriously considering joining us, please vote on dates within the next week or two so we can all have adequate time to request time off and prepare for the trip.

Thanks! I can't freakin' wait!

Any time in august that doesn't dip into September is best for me.

Ok. Thanks for the quick replies. Do you have any opinions on which route to do? I'm currently thinking either the Cascade route (AJ's) or start off in Sisters on Route 4 and do a loop that goes south on 5 and comes back around in whatever path we can do in our time frame...

Unfortunately I can't help there as this'll be (dare I say it) my virgin OBDR voyage. I've got a little pub in Corvallis though and am down to donate some beer for a planning meeting.

Ditto that on the virgin voyage. Likely to be the case for several of us. A pub?! Nice! I might have to head down that way sometime in the not too distant future to look at some old small bikes anyway. My wife has never ridden before, so before dropping a chunk of change on a modern dual sport for her, I think I'll pick her up an oldie. If she likes it, then a modern bike will just be easier and more comfortable for her to ride when we pull the trigger on it. :)

Oh shit, if one of the riders owns a pub I might be interested in getting in on this one!

Why do I feel like I just opened a drunken Pandoras box....? Any chance you're looking at the 79 XR? I was actually looking at that one out for my wife last week.

There's a '79 in PDX I was thinking about, but there is an '86 in your neck o' the woods that I like better...looks like a plated dirt bike though. That wouldn't bother me for this purpose though. I just want to get her something to learn on to see if she likes it while not worrying about damage she "might" do to it. ;)

Yup. I'm in the same boat. We've been two up riding together for years and she wants to be able to join for the gritty stuff.

I just started riding in April and my home made cargo racks have currently eliminated my passenger footpegs, so she hasn't been able to get in the woods with me yet! I'm hoping that she'll dig it and we can get a bike that will be for her to ride along with, but that I can also use for trail days closer to home!

I am interested in going and August 27th-30th would work for me.

Route 4 out of sisters looks good but I would be game for either route.
