You realize that you are assembling likely the perfect motorcycle to be entered in the 2013 Iron Butt Rally as a participant in the Hopeless Class.

The 37 MPH top speed may be a limiting factor. After a certain rider (Ed Otto ) finished the IBR on a Honda Reflex scooter minimum speed requirements were introduced .

In 2009 2 Suzuki RE-5 motorcycles (the rotary ones) started the Rally.

Every time I read thread like this it makes me want to find a Honda 50 Cub and restore it for my wife (Her first ride). This thread is inspiration, educational and extremely entertaining . Thank you.

OMG how have I missed this thread?!? I've just spent [literally] hours reading this thing through and am still only 1/3 of the way there. The bit about the soda blasting had me laughing so loudly that my wife came to see what was so funny, at which point she ALSO began following the thread with interest, despite having no real interest in motorcycles whatsoever.

Cheers to you, sir, I can't wait to see what's next!

Our intrepid OP hasn't posted since July '13. Has he met his demise on the lathe? or is he still roaming baja with a cold war compass?

Mullet5, next telegraph office you stumble across, give it a few taps. Let us know if you still have yer thumbs; or, if we need to send an inmate or two down, to break you out of some "south of the border" jail.

Lovin' this thread. Seriously, hope all is well; looking forward to any updates

Regards

Rod

July '13? Seriously? I really know how to milk a project for all its worth, don't I?

Well, I have put in a few evenings at Motolab since then, but they have all amounted to nothing more than me making a chunk of metal slightly small using a lathe. I didn't have it in me to write about that again.

However! A few weeks ago I spent an evening at Motolab "working on" the forks, and there were some startling/hilarious findings. I will come back soon to write a post on that. With pictures!

Also, I received a PM from a guy in Australia who might be as financially irresponsible as I am, check this out

It is in slightly better shape than yours as i had it 'restored' in Vietnam before they sent it over, I am to scared to take it apart as i don't know what i might uncover.
If you want to unload any parts let me know, it's a bit of a mission getting anything for them!
Cheers

Trust me, if you are going to take it apart, you should be armed with a robust sense of humor fortified with a minimum of two alcoholic beverages per 1/3 hour. Then, when you find something wrong/dangerous/broken in half, just put it back together as fast as you can. Do not, under any circumstances, try to fix it properly. You can see where this has gotten me.

I have just now decided two things:
1. This advice is so fantastic that I am going to copy this message into my Minsk thread.
2. This beer is delicious.

End transmission.
Mr Westlaus, I hope you see this and post up a couple pictures of your Minsk. I would love to see an assembled one for a change. Motivation!

I hope to get moving on the Minsk soon, I feel a real sense of duty to push this project through for the good(ish) people of ADV!

Have you seen this photo over in the What bike do you want today thread?

You got possibilities on your hands.

Looking forward to seeing what you've done lately.

What they leave out is that 20 of them started the rallye.

Nice looking bike though. Quite a step up from the stereotype.

Yo Mullet, still

I have nothing constructive to add. I might have something destructive to add though. Just subscribing to the most valuable thread on this entire forum.

Because they couldn't call it a ZS250GY-3(RX3)?

Same bike, different name. http://en.zongshenmotor.com/?q=node/892
