Check out the build section here in the hacks section if you haven't already done so.

I picked this up over on Steve's Place

"windle outfits [aka an F2] have the engine set at 25 inch from front spindle to the centre of the crank"

I saw another post saying one guy used 23 1/2"

useless trivia, I know

The thread is about design, right? Though someone might find it useful. If not I'm happy to delete it.

Here's a couple pics of my sidecar suspension. I "designed" and made it myself. It works just fine

Hey sorry ken I meant no offense I was just curious what you were getting at. Seems like wheelbase and other factors would come into play. Maybe I missed something farther back in this thread sorry.

Hello... I'm the fairly new guy to this particular thread but can normally be found wandering around in the "Indiana Ride Thread". Thank you to everyone here for your time in giving all of the great tips & tricks that you've encountered in your builds. I have been scouring the web for info/video/pics in which to gather ideas for a sidehack build that I want to do this winter. Originally, I wanted to build off of my '05 Yamaha FJR but am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on a Super Tenere' and then build from that. I am starting (like many of you have done) with raw materials and building from there. What I'm interested in, though, is building a fully articulating rig that not only allows the bike to still lean/corner normally but also let's the hack wheel & body lean also. I've found one or two videos of experimental stuff out there on the web but nothing with enough clarity to gather ideas from. Would you guys happen to have any links/info on articulating rigs to help give me any ideas to boost from?

EDIT: After hours of searching, I found this. Huge help here ----> https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=p.../US4385770.pdf The search for any other pics or videos on the subject is vague, at best.

As luck would have it, I recently acquired the very machine described here. It came with a plaque stating "Mitchell Automatic" Serial #1. I could post pics here if you like.

I'll get pics posted as soon as I can. I'll be removing the sidecar body for painting soon, so I'll be able to get better pics of the parallelogram linkage. It's considerably different (and simpler) than in the patent drawings. The third wheel tilting and self castering mechanism is also much simpler and more effective than what is shown in the drawings. I'll also find time to do a write up about what it's like to ride. I'm still getting comfortable with the nuances. It has been 30 years since I last rode this rig. I can tell you that it is a hoot to ride, not a PITA like a normal hack. No danger of running wide in right hand curves.
