Will you be able to get parts for a classic like that? Don't settle for aftermarket, only genuine Ford. You have KTM parts to buy after all!

I've been looking at small SUVs for a while now. I really like the Jeep Cherokee trailhawk version. If I can find a good deal I might have to get one now.

One day I'll make it there. I'd like to do it on my little klx250, but if the time comes I'd probably grab one of the bigger ones.

I guy rode a KTM525 from South America up there and back, you can do it on a KLX250. I know it's just a dream right now but why not start making a rolling bucket list? I don't think that trip is anywhere near as hard as it was decades ago. We saw everything from wingers to some chick from Cincy towing her shar pei in trailer behind her Honda Shadow. The AlCan is pretty much all chip-seal now. While I was up at Kennicott, they said that road was also planned to be paved to lure more tourist. Like Indy said, pending what you ride, watch out for the frost heaves, they are a total blast on a true dual sport.

The Top of the World and the Robert Campbell Highway from Watson Lake to Ross River are gravel as well as the Dempster. Almost any bike can traverse Ak and YT, it's all in the rider and his/her preparedness. I have 2 recommendations outside a reliable bike, really tough tires (spare tubes/repair kits) if you plan to explore some of the gravel routes like Dempster (think railroad ballast) and lots of fuel capacity.

If you really want to do it, start planning sites to visit and make time even if it requires you to drive part way or ship and fly. I keep a Garmin base camp file full of my bucket list way points spread all over the US, Ca and Mex. The great plains are more a great pains than anything. Make sure you ride the Ice Fields Parkway north from Banff.

Good point. I guess it would be a good idea to start saving the waypoints I want to see in my Basecamp file. I always forget where stuff is then end up just winging it whenever I go somewhere. I need to play with my basecamp more, there are tons of things it can do that I have no idea how to use I'm sure.

Yeah, but would it actually ever get published or would we mind you dehydrated and dead with your computer still rendering the video?

That's why I sold my GoPro years ago. Took a couple videos out riding and realized I was never going to watch them or do anything with them.

Totaled means different things to different people.

I bought my lincoln 'totaled' and worse than his escort. Wired the lights in place and kept going, had $700 in it and got 5 years out of it. Girlfriend wrecked it last month and the frame bent pretty bad from the rust. I doubt it would have bent had the car been less rusty.

My van is currently totaled, I didn't even have to fix anything to drive it.

There are deals to be had on wrecked cars, but you have to find them private party.
