Let Me Know What You Think About My Bike

I've been spending all of my spare time for the last few weeks getting my bike ready for the sun, if it ever comes to us here in northern Minnesota, If things go as planned I will be leaving Minnesota the 10th of April for Tennessee and North Carolina.

I bought this BMW last spring and over the course of the last summer I put about 11k on it and spent way to much putting additions on it. Here's what I've got on it so far, Let me know what you like, don't like, think I've gone over board on, or am missing.

I've been to Bemidji, and don't remember the gas stations being that far apart.

Maybe planning a trip to Siberia?

It looks like you took a pig and added lipstick. You made a decent sized bike, with marginal power, ginormous and heavier.

You guys are harsh! The guy put on 11K in a short riding season up there in Siberia which is more than I can say for myself. (Although Virginia may have rivaled MN for snow this winter ).

If you need that much storage, it looks like a decent way to carry it all. I'm not sure I'd want to tote it around all the time when not in use though.

The only things I could imagine adding is an insulated cup holder and a bean-bag ashtray.

Don't worry about the negitive responses, there are a lot of guys on here who think there bike is the be all end all of two wheel travel, and everyone should ride exactly the same type of terrain and uses the same technique as they do, and your an idiot if you buy a different bike or set it up for something other than there idea of what "adventure riding" is.

If you're happy with it, it is perfect.

Bike is probably not so nimble with that setup, but it looks ready to go anywhere on the planet!

+1

Adventure Riding is individually defined. You have found your definition.

I know its got a warrior look. Thats fair. Im more turned on by practicality than style.

The additional weight is 41.8 pounds and My gear weights 38.4. The bike doesn't feel heavy, i can corner 90 degrees going 2 mph, on loose ground and i can change lanes rapidly at 80 without feeling thrown off balance.

When i travel i cook all my food. So my fuel bottles attach to my MSR dragonfly stove, which burns regular unleaded. I usually carry about 5 days of food on the bike and about two days of water.
I also camp every night. Ive got a simple MSR tent and I've also got a hammock for when my back needs some rehabilitation.

This summer im going from MN to uath, then north carolina, then the black hills. I consider most of my trips as preparation for an Alaska to Tiera del Fuego trip in 2017.

My longest day on the bike, was 848miles. Longest trip was 29 days and 7200 miles. Best millage got on my bike was 78.4. I average 68.5. Also since someone said something about underpowered i'd have to add that thats all in the eyes of the beholder. Before i had this bike i toured around the usa on a yamaha 200cc and actually managed happily. My f650 has never felt underpowered, never wished i had more speed or acceleration when i was passing people or whatever.

Thanks everyone for the replies. See y'all on the road.
