I have the 1055 for mine. I did a little trimming of the interior foam so it fit better. I need to trim a bit more as on my last trip, the foam pushed the power button and it was dead when I got to my destination.

Just as a side note, the mini usb plug failed and I had to send it back to Dell. Super fast turn around. The mini usb plug still feels a little fiddly so I hope I don't have a problem again.

If you're looking for a Windows 8 tablet to run Mapsource/Basecamp, the following 10" tablet with 64Gb is for sale on Woot.com for $280

I've been using an ASUS tablet since last summer. When it upgraded to 8.2 there was a bug that caused it to crash (common known problem) once or twice a day, but recently loaded an update that seems to have cleared that problem for good. I would suggest a Bluetooth mouse for working BaseCamp. Its been a great devices now with the latest update. Nice to have all the tablet features and be able to run any Windows program. Just not as many "apps" available as IOS or Android, but getting better.

That one won't work! It's running Win 8 RT, which will not run Basecamp nor Mapsource, nor any Windows programs.

A tablet needs to be running the full version of Windows 8/8.1 to run Basecamp/Mapsource. The naming scheme MicroSoft is using is somewhat confusing.

Help uploading maps

So i have a dell venue pro 8 and i installed Basecamp just fine through the Garmin website. Here is my dilemma, how do i get my city nav 2013 into the tablet. I have the dvd/cd of CN. Can i copy it onto a flash drive and then transfer it over , or copy it onto a microSD and installl it that way. Ive tried hooking up my Montana gps but CN still dosent show up in Bascamp. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you open up Express with your GPS connected to the Venue, you have the option to reinstall maps. This worked for me. Alternatively, I installed another map set off a DVD by network mounting my laptops DVD drive from the Venue.

I have a USB DVD drive. Or share a drive on a network machine. Might be worth trying to get it to a memory card though.

Dell Venue 8 question:

Mine doesn't appear to do anything with the micro USB other than charge. In fact, even though the power cord has a USB end, I can't charge it off a USB port.

Rather, how are you able to hook anything up to the tablet (or are you just using the card slot?)

I use a OTG cable so i can hook up a flash drive . I noticed that the usb charger that came with the venue is a 5v/2amp aposed to the standard 5v/1amp. I think most usb ports are runing at 5v/1amp. you might want to check it out to make sure. hope that helps

I bought an OTG cable as well and my Venue can send/receive waypoints etc. my Garmin 478. It's a USB II cable so it's compatible with the 478, an older GPS

FYI: Office Depot has the 'Dell™ Venue Pro 8" Wi-Fi® Tablet, 32GB' on sale through May 24 for $219.99.

Being able to use it for BaseCamp may be just the excuse I need to buy one to replace my iPad2.

Windows 8 is like having orange tile in every room of the house. Its fine as long as you love orange tile.

Yeah, Windows 8.1 as a tablet OS has a ways to go to catch up with IOS or Android, but the Venue 8 Pro option is a lot cheaper than a MacBook Air to run Basecamp, a browser, email, and Kindle, which is all I need it to do.
