Haven't opened it yet, so I'm not sure of the material. I wasn't able to source an OEM one, or else I would have gone with that. By the way, what is the original gasket made from? The one I am losing my finger nails to seemed to be some sort of fiber...


In other news, I'm replacing the clutch now. One advantage of having the engine out of the frame is that to remove the clutch lock nut, I just throw it into the car, head down to the auto shop and use their impact gun.



Only concern at the moment is for the state of my clutch center. The interior finish seems to be damaged. Not sure how this happens... heat? I hope it to be only superficial, nothing looks like structural cracks. I would like to hear your opinion though. The outer basket also shows signs of wear where the friction disks contact the 'teeth' of the basket.

That gasket from Wemoto is a standard paper one. honda p/n 11394-MV1-850
Your Honda dealer should have it as it's the same p/n for a Honda Shadow and the Transalp.

Do you have the Haynes Manual?

My parts fiche says the R crankcase cover gasket is 11394-mr1-000. I searched my Honda dealer's site and Partzilla, but it is unavailable: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detai...4-MR1-000.html

Didn't know 11394-MV1-850 existed... I suppose it must have superceded the 11394-mr1-000 I was searching for. I suppose if it fits a 1988 NT650, it should work on the RD03.

I don't have the Hayne's. Don't think there is one for the XRV 650. I am using the Honda Workshop manual though, which is great.

About the photo. I wasn't talking about the staked clutch nut, already got one of those. I am talking about the wear you can see in the cast aluminum at the base of the spring posts. In the photos it looks like it's only oil perhaps, but it is actually oil seeped into cracks that seem to have formed in the piece's finish. I just found that the part is $65, so not terrible. Just wonder if it's worth replacing...

Ooops...sorry my bad. Ohhh...the casting imperfections. I'm sure I've seen that before. Cant remember if it was my TA or my AT clutch. I don't think it's so unusual. Someone concur with me here as I'm sure I have seen that on a clutch basket. Providing it's not flaking off it's probably nothing to worry about.

Brilliant, thanks for giving me that cross-reference... I should have been more robust in my initial searches.

I made sure the surface wasn't flaking off, so it may be casting imperfections, like you say. Now that you mention it, I believe I remember seeing similar imperfections in small recesses while sanding the crankcase. I can't envision another explanation.

Are those casting "imperfections" small raised ridges or actual cracks. Hard to tell from the photo.

If they are ridges - you're OK. If cracks your should replace the part.

I'm betting they are ridges since I have them on my TA castings also. They seem to occur in tightly angled or curved areas. Seems to just be part of the casting process.

For AT parts, try David Silver Spares in the UK. They seem to ship to the USA with reasonable prices.
