Snowy Mountains Run

Looking around, i needed a ride, i just installed a wilbers 641 shock on my bike and wanted to load the bike up to test it out, as its tuned for the weight of my panniers and topbox loaded with my camping gear. i had found a brochure on the snowy mountains website with prefered motorcycle roads, so thought ive always wanted to visit, so lets go.

Left South Sydney about 9am, after finishing work late the night before, struggled to pack the bike, as i found a mouse had eaten and nested in all my camping things, so a rush cleaning, and reorganizing, i couldnt find my jet boiler, so packed my metho stove instead, didnt really think things through or plan, just chucked stuff in and off i went.

First Stop Goulburn, for a coffee for breakfast

trying this selfie thing

the big merino has balls now, last time i saw it, it had no balls, and was over the otherside of town

wind turbines before cooma somewhere after canbera, ive always loved wind turbines, they fascinate me

rest area just before cooma, where i set up my video camera, a elcheepo crash cam thats 720p at best, cost me about 20 bucks, and ive added a 32gb sd card that holds hours of videos that overwrites it self, runs off the bikes power, so never needs charging, starts and stops when power is turned on and off to it. ive attached it to a ram mount, off my panniers, so it sticks out, for a good angle.

i also have a swann action cam, on a ram mount off the bars. although holds about 2 hours of video, and needs usb charging, no screen.

one of the dams of the snowy mountain scheme, couldnt really stop anywhere near it for a good photo.

Lake Jindabyne, nice nice sunny day, around 16 degrees, however, up ahead the clouds looked heavy dark and grey. ive been tring to take 3 photos, with the bike in different positions, to see what i prefer, the bike as the centre, or as a side with the background as the centre.

thredbo and it just started to rain, so i pulled into a servo and put the rain gear on, thinking that a friend said the road to khancoban had a lot of roos that stand in the road with no road sence, and being abot 430, i decided to stay in thredbo at one of the two camp grounds i saw a few km back,

yes fuel is 2.14 for ulp topped my tank up cost me 28 bucks

N something camp grounds, just before threadbo, i checked this one out, and their was just a bus camper van with a family, i i checked the other one out called the diggins, and their would have been 30 campers in it, so i went back to the other one, i rather a bit of peace and quiet.

It was cold, very cold, i didnt pack thermals, i stopped off in golbourn and brought a jumper since i forgot to pack one, im thankfull that i did. my old sleeping bag was rated at zero degrees, but very old, and made with a movable down inside it, i think its past its used by date. i normally have a sleepign bag liner, but it wasnt in the bag, so will have to find out where it is. normally i store it inside the sleeping bag. i couldnt get a fire going, i hunted around for firewood and kindling, but it was all wet, and was all a bit green, even with lighter fluid and 2 box;s of firelighters, i couldnt get it to burn. my only source of heat was my metho stove as i cooked a old can of ravioli that the mouse didnt eat. it ate all my sugars and coffees, noodles etc. i woke up at 4am, and their was a layer of ice over my tent. i just packed up the next morning, no coffee but washing up in the streem was nice, fresh cold ice water. looked very clean, but i didnt think of drinking it, with out boiling it.

Day 2
all packed up after a cold and damp night

i think this was called elbow corner or something like that, btween thredbo and khankoban, was a very nice spot, but had a no camping sign on it. would be nice to stay the night.

trying tog et this selfie thing right

a different angle on the elcheapo 20 buck crash cam,

Murry Power Plant 1 i think it said, hydro power

Just before Khankoban i noticed my camera had fallen off, i stopped to find it dangling from its power cord, had only fallen off a few minutes before hand, but gave some very interesting view of the rear end.

had a coffee in Khankoban nice little corner store, with reasonable priced fuel.

had a chat to a local about the roads, to find that the full loop would take me about 8 hours, so decided to go through the short way through cabramura, the road is closed during witner, so their was a chance of damage road. But it was a great run, twit after twist, thin road, not much road markings, not much traffic, a few dams, and things along the way, but not a lot of places to stop.

Cabramura, think it must be high up, this road is closed during winter, sign said it was a temporary town made for the workers of the hydro snowy scheme

a emergency shelter, sawyer hill i stopped off for a look at, i can only imagine being 6 feet deep in snow in winter

adaminaby, the end of the road, with a big trout
