Sorry for the delay... Suffering from ride reportus interuptus
Trying to get back on track

DAY 3: Chu's (Your Own Adventure) Ride
(Like always... heavy on pictures, not much on words)

Basic plan for the day was to ride out to The Racetrack and back, either via Saline Valley / Lippincott or Hunter Mtn / Teakettle. The choice was up to Chu and he went with the second option. We had a total of 7 in our group, ranging from a KLX250 to a GS1200.

(I am really bad with names, so you guys will hafta help me ID the pics.)

Rise and shine. Looking to be a really nice day

Lining up for brakfast buffet

Ready to roll

Threading up Hwy190.

Turning off at Salin Valley.

Chu (Headstaller)

(KLR650 guy)

(BMW650 guy#1)

Mark (markrmark)

My

Bill (conteacher)

Had a little navigational error at South Pass, but soon had everyone pointed in the right direction.

Hunter Mtn conga line.

Took a side trip over to the cabin for a short break.

(BMW650 guy#2) had a gravity moment as we were getting ready to leave. Helping hands sprang into action

DAY 3: (Continued...)

Moving on across the high country. Always nice up here.

Enjoying the view before dropping off the mountain.

Its all downhill from here guys.

Selfie

Bill (conteacher) swept the day, but I had to get at least a couple pics of him

Ooop... the cats are getting away, I better hustle and catch up

Gotcha

Mark and (BMW650 guy#1)

Chu and Bill.

Chasing Chu towards Ulida Flat.

OTS shot.

(KLR650 guy) crossing Hidden Valley.

(BMW650 guy#2) kickin' up some dust.

Dude... Wheres my burro?

Arriving at Teakettle Junction.

DAY 3: (Continued...)

Took a short break, then pushed on to The R r r r ace t t t rack.

No parking meters (yet).

The signboard makes it official.

A few of us took a walk out to The Grandstand for lunch.

Bitchin'

Hey... I can see (almost) my bike from here.

By the time I got back to shore, the boys were all suited up and ready to roll, but aimed in the wrong direction

(I may have spent a little extra time out on the rocks )

Group decision had been made to avoid Lippincott and head back via Ubehebe and Death Valley.
Its mutiny I say!

Didn't have it in me to ride that much pavement, so I would finish the loop solo

This adventure beast rumbled by as I was suiting up.

Heading s s s s south.

Took the opportunity to do a little poking around Homestake camp before dropping down Lippincott.

I wasn't the only one.

Lead mine entrance (everything well gated off).

Looking across at Lippincott grade.

Nice views into Saline Valley.

Rocky and loose in places, but I actually think the best shape I have ever seen it.

Mixed it up with a few other bikes on the wy down.

Straight shot across the valley floor was freshly groomed (mixed blessing).

At the intersection with Saline Valley Road.

OffRoadRyder there passed me about halfway back up to South Pass on the throttle hard! Thought briefly about staying close to get some action shots, but I know better than to hang behind an angry rock throwing D908
It was a good show for a few corners, but I was just cruising anyhow

DAY 3: (Continued...)

Started catching more and more bikes on the way out towards the highway. Dust was unbelievably bad at times. Afternoon wind was adding to it more than carrying it away. Had to stop for a moment at Lee Flat because I literally could not see the ground in front of me.

Decided to break from traffic and head across Santa Rosa Flat again (same as yesterday)

(My camera did not like the dust either and the lense cover was starting to hang.)

Took the fast road into Darwin.

Pumps were down, but I had plenty of fuel

Another selfie...

Note the Sena SMH10 above. A very cool bit of kit!
Some reviews over here > http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...5#post23895405

Stopped by China Garden on the way back today because we had skipped it yesterday.

Only saw a couple goldfish lurking in the reeds. Others saw more. I must've been on the wrong side of the pond.

Contrary to Lippincott, the Old Darwin Toll road is in about the worst shape I have ever seen it.

No problem for small bikes, but big bikes with 'round' tires beware. (Much steeper and looser than it looks.)

This is the loop that I did. ~135 miles total.

Back at camp, JL was putting on another demo. This time on a bigger beastie.

Raffling into the night

End of Day 3, Tomorrow I fly solo

the racetrack and teakettle are both great destination. stopping at the crater is a bonus.

that shot from the grandstand is the first one i've seen, that is a long walk on the playa in mx boots.

so i hear it is easier to ride down on lippincott than going up. well, next year.

good job matt, chu and conteacher in taking the noobs that far and bringing them back on time for the saturday night festivity.

I'd love to get in on next years ride

Howdy all,
So I am not a noob, I have actually been doing Death Valley trips since 1998 (on my first enduro... a 1982 Yamaha XT 550), and have done most of the rides you guys did (but not all of them).
I found out about your organized rides last year while at Warm Springs... the pool deck; My girlfriend and I had watched a family of Big Horn Sheep come down from the hills... then we heard the bikes coming down from Butte Valley... two riders asking where the spring was (they wanted to sit in a "pool" someone told them about).... and yes, I think they spooked the sheep - we didnt see them after that. but we talked, and they mentioned the ADV group ride....
Fast forward to this past ride of yours, I was again with my girlfriend (we were in my truck) when I met a young Canadian (who rode all the way on his KLR 250) at the parking area of darwin Falls. He mentioned he had come down for the ADV gathering at Panamint Springs; he was a really nice guy... I hope he had fun and learned a thing or two from the vet riders.
So I finally checked out all the ride reports, pics and stories.... You all seem like a fun, adventerous bunch.... my type of people!
So I thought I would introduce myself, check in from time to time, and hopefully make it on next years ride.
I am also up for other enduro rides, and for anyone who might be into dirtbikes and single track... I am always looking for people to ride with (never can have too many riding buddies).

Jesse

These are from this past trip, at the end of March:

I'm pretty sure I passed you in Titus canyon that weekend. That trailer looks very familiar.

Hi Jesse. You're always welcome to join us. We ride pretty often, nothing hardcore, mostly dual sports. Big Bear sometime next month.

See you soon I hope.

Thank you Joel.
Big Bear next month? Where do these upcoming rides get posted? For the most part, When I go up to Big Bear it's all about riding my WR450F... there is some really fun single track; 3n93 and the John Bull are also pretty fun, but I would never think of doing those on my DR 650.. which is mostly stock (slim and nimble), let alone my KLR 650 (a pig that is set up for touring).
Where/what do you guys ride up there? Camp or cabin/hotel? Day ride or weekend?

Thanks again..

Jesse

Here are the few pics that I took during the Noob Rally this year, need to put the camera in a more accessible position.

On the way back from the Saline Valley Hot Springs:
