5 gallon tank, about 42 mpg on my last tank, usually fill up with .75 to go, so 4.25 x 42 = 178 miles.

I think I pushed 190 miles a couple of times. 160 is more typical. YMMV!

The tank was listed at 5.6 gallons. Don't know if it was all useable as I never ran it out. I too got 42-43 mpg most of the time. Low fuel light consistently came on around 175-180 miles. Should have been a gallon left so about a 220 mile theoretical range. Like ag_streak I usually filled up around 190-200. Never took more than 5 gallons.

The fuel gage on mine was completely accurate and repeatable so I could tell if I was getting better (best was 49 mpg) or worse (worst was 39 mpg) mileage.

My last fill up was almost identical to this. I had 170+ miles on the tank and put in 4.1 gallons.

I admit that I miss the Tiger 800xc, but the FZ1 will keep me preoccupied for the time being. I just came in from the garage after adding the rear rack and top case.

Gen1 got a 5.5 gal tank. My low light comes on at 180 mi. There's about 1.1 gal. after that theoretically. Most I've done is 226 mi on a tank on the BRP at a 'brisk' pace.

On my ride yesterday (moving avg was a little over 53 MPH) I was getting over 51 MPG.

I went on a spirited run on my Gen 1 through northern New Mexico this past weekend and refueled at 255 miles (5.3 gal). I hit the low fuel light at 213 miles so I knew I had about 1 gallon left, needless to say I was cutting it pretty close to running out. Pretty impressive if you ask me...

Which year gen I?

I have my eye on 2 different Gen. I Fz1s and I could use the collective experience!

One bike is a 2001 with about 35k and a boatload of mods, including pipe, jetting, suspension work, servicing, steal-braided lines, etc...

The other is a 2003 Bee edition with about 30k, pipe and...

It seems like the 2001 is the bike to pursue, but the Bee is definitely a looker.

My question is if there are any significant reasons to look at the 2003 Bee beyond the flashy paint job. Any tweaks to the motor, transmission, brakes or suspension that would make the 2001 less of a deal?

All the Gen 1 models from 2001-2005 are essentially the same mechanically. The only significant differences are the color schemes...

Which ever one you go with, make sure you get after it in second gear. This is there one weak spot, it will jump the gear under hard acceleration. I have 50k on mine and love it.

I guess I don't ride mine hard enough.

Or is that only a gen-1 feature?

Jon…

I typically get right at 40 mpg with mine. So, 5.x gallon tank means 200 miles pretty easy. I typically fill up at about 160-170 miles, and I have yet to see the low fuel light come on.

Here is my Fuelly log.

240 miles or more isn't uncommon. My best is 243, and I could have gone a bit farther.
