Finally got around to streaming the WSBK races. Good stuff.
Race two was a cracker.

Laguna Q

Well, we finally learned a rider can run off at Laguna's T6 and survive:

For the Frenchman, the first 15 minutes wasn’t without incident as the Kawasaki rider ran off track at turn 6 before gently laying his ZX-R machine down in the gravel.

Meanwhile, Sykes broke the Superbike track record during Superpole. 1:21.811!

Tom is has really come into his own. 3 seconds faster than Buby (yes, I know Buby rides a lower spec machine). By comparison, Bradl's 2013 pole was 1 1:21.1. Lorenzo did a 20.5 in 12 and Stoner a 21.3 before that.

SBK is looking at 16 rounds in 2015, the 12 currently existing rounds and Thailand, Chile, South Africa and Russia. The Thai track looks to be homologated soon and would fall between Phillip Island and Aragon. Chile and SA are dependent on track modifications and, in SA's case, funding for those mods. A Russian round is apparently dependent on whether there's still a shooting war in the Ukraine.

On the Silly Season front, Sylvain Guintoli is reportedly ever closer to announcing a deal with Ten Kate Honda. Jonny Rea to Kawasaki is apparently a fait accompli but no announcement to date. Randy DePuniet is touted to replace the MotoGP bound Eugene Laverty at Voltcom Suzuki. The factory Aprilia team is widely regarded as good as gone, but the Red Devil Roma team may carry the Aprilia banner, with Toni Elias returning. Barni Racing is looking to move up to SBK on Ducati machinery with their current rider, STK1000 champion Leandro Mercado. A privateer BMW team, headed by Troy Corser was announced at Magny Cours, riders TBD.

Good races this past weekend. I got to watch all of them thanks to the subscription and my wife being busy with work.

(nobody hounding me to tick any more chores off that honey-do list.)

Never cared for Melandri. This weekend make me even less of an admirer (even if it DID help Sykes).

Could have a better one next year. They say that IF Aprilia go to MotoGP, the Red Devil Roma team may be running the full factory bikes in WSBK...

All year the announcers were saying that basically Elias had a factory-spec bike. His results sure don't reflect it.
