An inmate here?

A disabled guy rode this, cool he's able to ride.

Someone brought this and a club member bought it. So cool!

My home for the night. The little Stinger fouled out a plug no cleaning could remedy, so it missed out on the Sunset Ride. Also ran too poorly to do well in the exhaust noise competition. I had a lot of fun still and the awards ceremony came and went on sunday. Went home happy.

I've enjoyed reading this thread, thanks! The Stinger is just super cool looking... If I had been at the Auburn show, I'm fairly certain that RD400 would have come home with me. Great price on that bike...

You know when you get a message and know that it's no good for you? How could I pass up bikes that are cheap! So off I went.

Good thing I'm not going the other way.

The entire freeway south bound was closed. I make it to my destination and they are there waiting for me.

Two KZ's, one a 400 and the other a 440. Best thing is that both run! And the price was right.

Loaded up ready to go home.

Nice mod.

Looks like it still has good brakes.

Ok, doing a little puttering on the bikes. I think I may be keeping the Blue KZ400 and cleaning it up just so it will be a decent rider. Will probably sell off the black KZ440, although I really like the twin leading shoe front brakes, I don't have the finances to fix and support both bikes. Got a cheap seat cover off ebay for the 400.

While putting it on....

Now I know why it was only $30.

I've got a big ride coming up in May and I have to leave early, in the dark. The headlamp on the Mighty Tempter is pitiful and I had to do something about it. Good thing one of our inmates was having a sale in Vendors. So I got a new H4 for the Mighty Tempter and an H7 for the Ulysses.

Nicely packaged!

Before:

Crusty crowded bucket.

Easy to remove.

The boot no longer fit and instead of cutting it, I taped up the opening. also, it's a little fiddly to get the wire stay under the large heat sink and snapped into place. A pair of needle nose pliers worked.

Careful massaging of the wiring and connectors allowed everything to fit in the bucket. This is the newer H4 that is smaller than the original. Glad I got this one as it's a tight fit already.

all done.

Thanks Rich. I have ride reports I do when I go with my club and ride either the Tempter or the Stinger. When ever you get bored enough, you can follow along.

Tired of the wonky handling and contacted the Ikon rep I got the shock from. He's ordered me a new softer spring, the only other one for this shock. Sure wish I had twin shocks instead.

This took about 1 1/2 hours to remove.

For certain to take longer to reinstall.

Started mounting the shock back onto the swingarm. This time, upside down since the collar was actually contacting the spring lever causing a bit of a tweak.

At least the damper adjustment will be at the bottom of the shock now which is a lot easier to get to that when it was at the top. Let me tell you that IKON was really good at taking car of me. They sent a new spring to Dave, my local rep, and it was the only other spring for this shock and appeared made of thinner coils. No pictures of the comparison though.

Previous spring was #557, this one is #550. All bushings lubed and ready to go in.

This picture will haunt me later. After struggling with this swingarm for 10 minutes, I realized I'd mounted the shock on the back side instead of in front.

Anyway, finally got it back in and everything bolted up. It feels better and has more travel and I get the sag I need. I still have to play with the dampening as the setting I have it on is 3. That's suggested for two up. I have to thank IKON for taking care of me and especially Dave, that also runs a BMW repair shop, for helping me remove and install the spring. He let me use his tools and shop for the spring swap and over saw everything. I was even able to clean all that grime off the parts when the bike had a leak.

Will report back on how it rides. Hopefully the wobble is gone and the comfy ride is back.

Well, happy to report the handling is much improved! Thanks to Dave's help (IKON rep) and IKON for sending a replacement spring. Here's the break in report of the new spring.

Went to the Hanford Show yesterday. It's pretty small now. Interesting things showed up. Like this....

And according to the guy driving the truck, this is NEW! .7 miles on it. Had been at a couple of dealerships all it's life.
