Centennial Mts. campout

There's a really nice campground (Stoddard Creek C.G.) about a mile off I-15 just south of the Idaho Montana border. Would be a great place for a gathering. Hundreds of gnarly trails for the foolhardy. Lots of good gravel roads for the quarter ton class. And paved access from I-15 for cruisers. Within striking distance of the Gravelly Mts, Medicine Lodge road, Red rock road to Yellowstone, Big Hole country, Lemhi Mts. and it's in the middle of the Centennial Mts. Twenty some odd single camp spaces but it has a group campsite that can hold up to 50 people with lots of places for tents. Only the group campsite can be reserved but as of today the weekends for August 8 to 11 and Aug 29 to Sep 1 are available for reservation. If enough people are interested I'll go ahead and reserve it. Please PM me with preferred date.

Sounds like a good trip. Since you have a few days you might make a turn off the Red Rock Road and make a loop through the Gravelly Range. It's on my list but I'll be heading up Panther Creek, Spring Creek to Darby then the Magruder and Lolo motorway about the same time. (leaving Monday if anyone's interested.) Kind of hard to scare up dual sport riders around here. Most riders are on trailies or monster cruisers.

Laugh Just moved to Idaho Falls for new job at INL

Hi everyone! I've just completed reading all 50 pages of this thread. I see there are some very nice rides in the area, for which I'm psyched!

About me... hey, hey, I'm over here... stop staring at my avatar...

I recently accepted a position at INL and have now relocated to Idaho Falls. I was able to get a relocation package with my offer, so almost all of my things are in storage in Las Vegas, including both of my motorcycles. I'm currently residing at the Hampton Inn near the airport, until my apartment is ready for me to move into, late this month. My things will then be transported to my apartment.

So, here I sit in my hotel room, listening to music, reading about many epic rides in the area. So much so, I'm contemplating flying to Las Vegas and getting my riding gear and 2012 BMW R1200GS Adventure out of storage and ride it back. I get SOFA KING bored when I cannot ride.

I look forward to meeting the riders in this area and trying out some of the easier off-roading this area has to offer. I tend to be a more conservative rider off-road and prefer to keep on fire roads, graveled roads, easier jeep trails, and the like. I love to road ride too. I bought this bike in North Carolina and rode it back to where I was living in Southern California, completing a CC50 iron butt ride in the process. (Coast to coast in less than 50 hours - I went from Jacksonville Beach, FL to San Diego, CA, over 2300 miles in 47 hours, 45 minutes water to water). I've also done a couple of other iron butt rides, including my first SS1K on a 2007 BMW G650 X Challenge (Saddle sore 1000 - 1000 miles in less than 24 hours: Hiawatha, KS to Beaver, UT 1047 miles in just over 20 hours) That ride was part of a 4500 mile, 3 week visit from San Clemente, CA to Waukegan, IL and back. I followed route 66 from California to Chicago. That was an exhausting trip on that thumper. It has since been sold, but it was a fun bike.

So, I'm originally from Illinois, lived the past 12 years in California (11 years in San Clemente, CA; last year in Bakersfield, CA). I'm used to being able to ride year round, so having to "put up" the bikes for the winter will be something new.

Feel free to stare at my avatar now... I know, it's hypnotic... and in case you were wondering, it's not a photo of me or anyone I know, so no - I will not be bringing her with me...

A photo of my GSA at sunrise on CA-58, between Bakersfield, CA and San Luis Obispo, CA. A very twisty and fun road through the mountains and valleys in central California. I highly recommend this road if you ever get over to that area...
