I have a giant collection of GPS Tracks (ToI & others) I collected from others for ID posted on GPSXchange.com under ID Statewide Motorized Trail System (SMTS).

The fall (mid sept.) would be ideal for a Canada to Mexico as you would beat out winter and follow the heat.

Mexico to Canada would also be trickier as you need to watch the AZ heat plus the northern 1st snows.
Spring up north would be snowed out, so i'd say that leaves fall again as the ideal time too.

A group of us are diverting from COBDR due to rain forecast this week. We are going to ride ID. Do you have any suggestions. We are departing from Pocetello. I'm riding section 5 & 6 of UTBDR to get there...

The IDBDR is on my short list of rides for next year. Really looking forward to seeing more of the details on this route. Lived out in northern Idaho for a while, never got a chance to make it out in the back country but plan on fixing that mistake. Its a beautiful state lots of public lands and solitude.
My only concern is that 1400 miles will be rough to finish in a week like the other routes, unless there is a good chunk of it that is pretty fast moving. Well that and all my friends that ride are afraid to get their Harley's dirty, so ill have to find someone to ride the route with.

Sounds like we need to pick a date for an ADV ride on the IDBDR next summer. Probably won't be clear of snow before the last week in July...and parts on fire by the 1st week of August if the last couple years are any indication. It's my vacation plan for next year.

I have been tempted to post in trip planning, to get a group together for next year. But I have been waiting to check the route out when it's released next year. That and if I ended up getting a big group it might significantly increase the population along the route, for about a week. I'm looking at doing the route staring July 31st, give or take 2 weeks. I work on a rotation so I have to plan my time off on the Even weeks of the year. Would be great to go earlier but I know that this route will only have 6 to 8 weeks of prime riding each year.

That's the timeframe when I was planning as well. I'm pretty easy. I'm pretty sure that Magruder is part of the IDBDR and it's often not open till late July. The Lolo Motorway might not be snow free much earlier either. I don't know much of the southern part of the state, it will be a learning experience.

The south end should be open to ride a lot earlier than the north, most is lower elevation and dryer from my experience. Fire is a bigger issue, well and in the valley it's gonna be HOT by then. Craters of the moon is probably just east of the route and is a really cool place to check out, worth a short detour.
