HA! ....

I do have to admit that the S10 is more a long road trip bike for the wife and I ... when it's time to get dirty the DRZ gets called to action.

This is coming through the valley September 18th: http://www.motorcyclecannonball.com/

Here is a thread that rtwdoug started: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1007685

I tried to catch up with them last year when they came through the valley, but I couldn't make it. I'm planning on heading over to High Desert Harley Davidson and check the old bikes out.

Ride suggestions?

I'm going to be in Nampa for a horse event and have rented a Triumph Tiger (not XC) for Friday 9/19.

I'm looking for suggestions for a scenic paved/gravel road ride. 200-300 miles would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

I would recommend taking I84 to Hwy 21, just east of Boise, and heading north to Idaho City. From there you can take gravel to Placerville, and north on nf 615 and connect tp the Banks Lowman Highway. Take that rd west to Hwy 55, and then North to Cascade. If you'd rather ride the sweetest twisties in the area, from Idaho City stay on Hwy 21 going north to Lowman. From Lowman head west on the Banks Lowman hwy to Hwy55 and north to Cascade. From there follow the east side of the lake down to Cabarton-High Valley rd, (more gravel) and follow it south to NF 626 and to Sagehen reservoir . From there go east to 2nd fork rd, and south to Ola, and follow the Sweet-Ola rd to Hwy 52. Take that west to Emmett, and South on Hwy 16. Turn east on Jag (gravel), take it to Willow creek and head south to Eagle. Follow Eagle rd south to I84, and cruise back to Nampa. There are many variations and alternate routes that could be ridden, depending on your preference for dirt or pavement. This loop as I routed it will give you about 250 miles and probably 100 or so miles of dirt.

+1

Except that the first 10 to 15 miles north of Idaho City has been chewed up (recently roto-milled) for re-construction. Three weeks ago it was heavily grooved pavement in preparation for re-paving, with several miles of fresh oil & gravel after the grooved pavement to the summit.

As of a week ago, I talked to a rider that reported it was not completed yet.

It's still good, just don't get your hopes up for a knee dragging good time.
