Nexus7 refurb 130$ It's a 32GB with stand alone GPS, no cell connectivity. WiFi only.
Osmand free app that you can load .gpx files into. Pretty easy to use.

1" Ram ball mount (though sounds funny) does a good job of holding the tab. this holder http://www.protelecomsupply.com/ram-...-ifxoCJkLw_wcB

usb connector and cable for on the fly charging.

I have been having more and more issues using small GPSs. Sight being the worst. I can't see my GPSs well enough for them to be useful.
My only real choice in a stand alone is a 6" 600+$ garmin. I just can't justify that kind of cashola.
This whole thing is less than 200 and it is an android tab that does all that stuff too.
Not waterproof.
Garrett, I suspect that this is not going to be a good solution for the kind of riding you do. Well... unless you can protect it in a tank bag or something. The charging connector is not robust. I am thinking about some better solutions than the usb in space you can see in the photo.
Gloves have worked.... and not worked. I think humidity has something to do with it.
It was in direct sunlight last weekend and didn't freeze even though it was hot to the touch.
It led me down an adventurous gravel road last weekend to the MD tag.

Jack, been thinking about more and more going this route. I've come across a guy here on adv that has an iPad mini on his 990. He claims over six months of hard, dual sport use without issue. He's supposed to be doing an I depth write up. If he posts it, I'll make sure to link it here for interested parties.

...and I hear you on the chinsy USB connection. Mine was giving me fits a few weeks ago... Right up to the point when I just shed the gps. Oops.

Carol Ann has the same tab; I was not aware you can use it as a GPS. Is there an app she's missing? I confuse easily...

There are some nice phones too. The 7" is a bit largeish. If I was going to do real dualsporting, I would find a 5" or 6" gps enabled phone that doesn't need a voice plan to function. Then I would put it into a more robust mount that isolates it from the elements and vibes. Weakest link is the USB.... I'm considering just epoxying the damn thing in there.
