SILK Motorcycles

Hello,

Anyone ever heard of SILK motorcycles out of England? This is what I got off of Google:

Silk Small company started by racer/builder George Silk and Maurice Patey, in 1970, production started 1975. Started with a water-cooled 656cc twin. Went to 682cc in 1976 with their 700s production model. Closed in 1979.

I saw one today outside the gym, pretty cool. Looked like a 2-stroke but I don't think it was...

I believe the guy used to be into Scotts and this was his take on what they would have become. There was a rare 500 I think then the 700s and electric start 700es model. I have seen a couple at shows and they are nice machines. I have a road test in a magazine somewhere and it was smooth pokey and handled well.

In the early 1970s George Silk, a former Scott apprentice, developed a roadster based on the familiar watercooled, two-stroke parallel twin format. The Silk 700S used a 653cc engine that produced 47bhp, housed in a tubular steel frame made by Spondon Engineering. Although top speed was only 110mph (177kph), the Silk was smooth, light and handled well. Small production levels led to high prices and problems with suppliers, however, and the last bikes were built in 1979.

They were kind of like Egli Vincents.Old motor in contemporary frame.
There are a few in the states.A friend of mine has one.

I have a classic motorcyclist mag July 2000 with an article on a Silk 700s. 54 hp /6000 and 45ft/lb at 3000 - 115mph. Interestingly it is housed in a Spondon frame.
