The highest ebay price, FWIW, in 2006, for a cherry R90S with original paint and low mileage was $14.5K. |

if I recall correctly the $14k one was a restoration |

Truth be told, although I would visit the seller with cash in pocket, I'm not sure if I can pull the trigger. That's lame, I know, but I'm wavering about some things: --does a guy who lives in urban New York City really need to store two bikes, one of which is a classic which can be only enjoyed with great difficulty in this urban area? --I really want Daytona Orange. --I would prefer a 75 or 76. --would I rather the GSPD I've been eyeing? It would be perhaps more practical for riding around here. Having said that I'm going to hopefully visit by Monday if it still there. |

R90S that's affordable? No-brainer right? Depends on your riding/commitment time. It ain't money-- it's whether you have the time to ride the thing like it's intended. If it's resto-investment you're thinking of, then no question: do it. If you are thinking about it and wondering where the GS fits in, i'd make a sucker bet that after a few weeks of R90S Dellorto pumper throttle-joy the GS would move its way back to the front of the paddock. The GS is just too damn good across the overall riding spectrum: suspension, brakes, shifting, bashing. Aesthetics? The G/S GS was weird-looking out of the box and is aging rather well. The 90S was "70's Superbike" out of the box and now looks fully like a 'classic' bike. Not that i give a damn about lines or aging: my GS is sweetest when it's covered in mud. All this to say: Do it! I had the early 70 HP RS, and those classic performance boxers are way fun-- both to restore and to ride. But once the GS was in the garage the RS's days were numbered. It was gone within 9 months of the GS's arrival, to a nice fireman from Idaho. Sigma: you'll love the S. But you'll renew yr GS vows.

On the trail on a R90S myself atm.
At Tom Byrne Motorcycles [Sydney Aust] circa 1975. ![]() As it is now. ![]() One owner 240K KMs. Changed colour and lost the engine bars and orig cans. Quite complete, hasn't been used much recently. Needs some TLC. And some convincing of the elderley owner that it needs a [new] loving home. Hey Hey! Rusty, |
