Thumb 1978 CB400 Hawk...done...???

OK so here's the final project. Unfortunately I'm not completely satisfied with how things turned out...I'll explain more in a moment.

Here's what I started with...a 1978 Honda CB400TII Hawk...the day I brought it home...

Here it is after $3.50 in paint, a bunch of elbow grease, the removal of the rear rack, and relocation of the rear turn signals. Also note the lack of mirrors...still need to get some new ones.

And here's how it sits today...after the addition of a $9.99 drag-bar, removing the front fender, a shitload of cussing, getting pissed off, and general frusteration.

Why all the cussing? Good question.

I started with a stock bar. Then went to a clubman bar, that wouldn't work fitted the correct way...so I put it on upside down.

Today my new drag-bar showed up. I knew there would be issues with the cables, etc being too long...but I had NO idea it would be this bad.

You can kind of see in the 2nd picture how the throttle cables have to come out to the front of the bike, under the front right turn signal. Looks kinda ugly/dorky, but it was the only way that wouldn't cause the cables to bind up.

Same thing with the brakeline, which you can't really see, but it's snaked around a bit underneath the headlight bucket. x2 with the clutch cable.

But...everything works well. I just spent 5 minutes doing burnouts in the garage, since it's f'in snowing out again!!!

Anyhow...whaddya think? I'm pretty proud of what 12 bucks and a lot of elbow grease did for the old girl.

Spicy

P.S. - MAD PROPS to Firefox. I had typed almost all of this out and the power went out at home. When I hit "restore last session" as I opened Firefox again, it had saved all of what I had typed up until the power went out, saving me from typing it all over again!

Well, It's simple, trimmed down and true. If it were me, I'd look to replace that small "Console Television" that is your rear tail light! I speak from experience,........those honda tail light are HUGE! Maybe look into some smaller turn signals, and you'll have a nice around town/fun bike to ride.
Did you say you were doing some Burnouts??? Pics?

A couple of suggestions for you that might clean up the look:

1) remove airbox assembly, install individual filters
2) remove signals
3) remove rear fender
4) remove stock seat, replace with a cafe' style seat section. You can find on ebay for $30-$50
