Many thanks for taking the time and effort to share this story. It was a fabulous read. Looking forward to part 2.

I know a lot more about Harley history than Indians since my dad was a Harley mechanic, but the Harleys of that day had what was known as a total loss lubrication system. The oil passed through the engine and then was lost, not recirculated. I assume the Indians were similar and that would account for Mr. Findlay's notation of miles per quart of oil.
