Elefant Sightings?

I looked at putting a 21" front wheels and maybe different fork,
so far what I found out is that the 43mm Upside down fork from KTM would slide right in the Triple clamp.
Now I don't know yet if the distance between the fork leg is the same as the KTM - If yes, I could re-use the KTM wheel and axle.
For that I need to check on a KTM again.
But that would bring it to a single front disk, but putting a 320mm rotor would probably work just fine as the Elefant 750 in Europe had that single disk too.

That's how far I am right now :-) and I am in no rush to do it anyway.
so I keep my hears open for other solutions.

From memory I believe the entire front end of a KTM will swap over. I imagine that would include the triple clamps. I haven't done a front end swap on the Elefant but I have on other bikes, often just swapping out the head races will allow you to do a swap. Obviously a complete front end swap keeps things simple as far as matching up brakes, mudguards etc (as there's nothing to match if you replace everything).

I'd see if the 50mm RWU WPs that were on some late 90s KTMs would do. Awesome fork and should be cheap (the cool kids don't want RWUs).

It seems a reasonably common swap so I imagine clearance isn't an issue.

does the lever pull really get lighter?
if any one did it could you give the exact model and year or the part number?

Have a drive round and look for one parked up. Give it a squeeze. That should tell you.

thing is its preety rare to see a ducati on the streets here
and I am going to fly to Italy to get all the parts for my engine so I wanted the part number or the exact model and year that will fit the Fant so there will be no troubles here
with the smashed wrist, my new baby and my engenering school I have no spare time to go around and look for some thing vary rare...

I did think you might say that....

It's all about cylinder ratios. If you can find piston sizes anywhere for both bikes you'll be able to tell if they're the same or not.

Ok, I was cruising the Flea Market and found these two Fants for sale.

The first is a '95 900ie in Florida.


And the second one is a 94 900e in Washington. This is a good deal, but probably needs some work.

I don't know either of these guys, but I'm pretty sure they don't know about this thread.

Gravel road season is here and I've been picking up the speed a bit so I was thinking about crash bars. The only ones I can find are the Hepco ones. Anybody have them. Anybody have something else? Anybody have anything for sale?

Am I the 1st guy to ride an`87 650 down into the Copper Canyon? Where's my prize? I went to the ADV gathering in Creel and did all the good stuff in the area.

Actually the bike was damn near perfect. No problems at all other than me overloading the subframe. Even it's rather poor gas mileage was never a problem with 140 mile range.

I've got the Hepco Becker bars, and I know a lot of people on this thread have them. I just put them on recently and they are burly !! I hope to never use them, but the bike looks even more tough with them on. My friends KTM 640 has bars and they are flimsy and wimpy. Go for the Hepco's.

got them on my 900,
mine came with fitting instructions in german.
Had to turn down the spacers to get them fitting properly at the back.

I did have a nice low side trying to get my knee down and they stopped the bodywork getting damaged.
The passenger foot pegs and ktm handgaurds save the rest of the bike.
I did get my knee down, closely followed by elbow and hip.

Does have switch to turn off lights, steel braided brake lines, Renthal Fatbar, FMF Powercore4 and a Corbin Seat. I dont know if any electrical upgrades have been performed.

Everything seems to work and it starts right up.

I have found a false neutral between 4th & 5th.

Just wanted to pass along some fork info for everyone. I am currently trying to cross over the front end for a KTM 43mm setup. The triple clamps from the KTM have the perfect steer tube length for the head tube of the Elefant. After I get this thing put back together I will let you all know what springs I had to order and any other misc. info. Just wanted to share.
