I've got a Lowrance 540c. I love it. Mounted above the triple clamp with u bolts and nylocs. Rode the race course (not racing, just having fun) from Vegas to Reno, fairly harse conditions. It was a life saver. Highly recommend it.

The 540c looks like a great unit, but it appears to treat routes as point to point only. True? Also, does it have an internal antenna, or must you always use the external antenna? The manual isn't clear to me.

Ext antenna only,
you can import routes made on Mapcreate PC software but it does not "auto route". you can make route on the unit with a series of way points but it is not like the other GPS's that "Auto Route"
It does do tracks lots of them
You have to use Lowrance Topo which is older Data but it looks very good on the 540C with the 5" 480x480 screen.
