Question Flatland radiator guards & 4.0 gal IMS tank...

I have Flatland radiator guards on my 2007 DRZ400S. I just recieved my new IMS 4 gallon tank and as I was fitting the tank I noticed >1/32" clearance between the upper right radiator guard and the tank.

Is this a common problem, and if so what are some of the solutions that have been used to solve the clearance issue?

Thanks.

case guards

I picked up a 400S last week and have some upgrades ordered and coming in. The case guards arrived and I was wondering what is the best adhesive to use to install them? Any help would be great.

I will take some photos this weekend of the beginning of the mods and after shots. I picked up this bike for a good price and it already has some mods put on. I rode the bike last weekend and it ran really good and has enough power to take me where I want to go.

Congrats on the DRZ!

Black RTV seems to work well for the side plates/case guards.

I used RTV silicone to put my case guards on per the instructions. I think I used the black stuff. I made sure to create a continous bead on the side cover so that no water could get trapped underneath and corrode the cover. then put duct tape on the outside of the guards and stick them in place move them around a little with pressure applied to create a good seal all way around. then tape them down with the duct tape and wait for it to set up. To remove them, if you ever need to, I read somewhere to use a thin wire and pull it behind to cut the silicone. Mine have never even hinted at coming off and have been beat on pretty good.

+1 on the RTV.

I've used both Permatex black and clear RTV Adhesive (from Wally world) on different bikes and the black seems to look better as the clear turned brown over time. Both
will hold very well as long as you put a nice even coating on.

THanks for the info to everyone. I am heading to the hardware store to get the black rtv to install the case guards.

I have the new grips, hand guards in as well and I am waiting on the radiator guards and a new throttle tube.

1000th post

To celebrate my 1000th post and since this was the bike that truly started me down the ADV pathway, here are a few of my favorite memories of my old Dizzer...

Paochow, nice pics. Are you pretty tall because you look almost too long to fit on the DRZ.

On the side cover glue post, I used high temp RTV (red) because that's what I had in the tool box. It's working very well. I wiped off the excess that oosed out when I pressed the cover on but you can still see a little on the edge. I don't care just as long as it stays on. My bike isn't a trailer queen, it get's ridden everywhere because it's the only bike I have.

Well, I made it snow some more! Picked the DRZ up Thursday and it's snowing again.. The snow bank in my driveway makes this look mini-bike-ish! Guess I'll have to trailer it to Riggins to see some dirt.
