Unless rules have been changed, it used to be impossible to enter china on a motorbike that's larger than xxxCC, the number escapes me, but the GS is definitely over that number. Plus it's a bureaucratic nightmare to get permission to do what Helge and others have done.. You should look into it before you get there. You might need to hire a local "fixer" to get the paperwork done.. I was talking to a local guy who had plans to do this, but due to the mega headaches of being allowed with your own bike, he went there, bought a chinese knock off of the russian Ural knock off of the pre-war BMW and rode it around.
I was really enjoying your south American trip and reading your journals.. but since your computer meltdown.. no more updates.. que pasa?! |

Thanks for the info so far, I'll email HP. Looks like it's going to be a challenge either way I look at it.
Website updated sometime soon, promise, we kept the diary of the trip - 10 months and 70,000 km - it would be a shame not too. Please keep the suggestions coming, we REALLY want to do this. Brad and Melissa |

Brad: Not impossible, but hard to do unless you have lots of $$ or lots of time. See the Horizons Unlimited HUBB http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...olutions-19009 for lots on this topic.

Go here and read carefully. There is a contact at KTM that can give advice.
http://www.ktm.co.at/ Then go JOURNEY --> ASIA --> CHINA The biggest prblem is the fact China does not recognize the INternational Drivers Licence. From what I gather you have to obtain a local licence. Needless to say that woul dbe fun. |

i think i would skip china on a RTW journey, it would probably work out cheaper to leave your bike in storage and fly in for a week or two fly out then continue your journey

The only thing I can tell you is that it will be extremely hard to get a bike into china over250cc (I thinks that the largest) . It will be esier to ship bike on past, buy something in china then sell it as you leave then pick your bike up at the botder. Good luck.
