There both good.
Metal bends Fiberglass shatters. Metal=good
Metal rusts, fiberglass doesnt. Fiberglass=good Other considerations. wieght, painting. I prefer my aluminium tank but only because it came with the bike and the Touratech 41l is so expensive. If it were free i would be just as happy with a fiberglass tank.

Err as far as I know Touratech tanks are plastic not fiberglasss.
Fiberglass tanks were popular on the spanish bikes of the '70s. They had a thick 6mm? skin on the outer surfaces that could hit things in a fall. So they were unlikly to shatter. Every material has it weak points, chose your failure method?

Failure modes for plastic tanks
UV hardening Gouging by rocks Stress fractures .. usuall around the mold points. Failure modes for aluminium tanks stress fractures .. vibration points.. (more subsectable to this than steel..) Gouging by sharp rocks .. or excessive bending by the same rocks Failure modes for steel tanks stress fractures .. vibration points.. Excessive bending by the sharp rocks Rust! Failure modes for fiberglass tanks stress fractures .. vibration points.. Gouging by sharp rocks .. or excessive bending by the same rocks UV hardening They all can fail along the seem lines.. manufacturing defects .. I think those are the main ones. Any others? ---- Basicly any tank can be good .. it depends on the quality of the product.
