Had travel experience with those units during my visit to the Philippines back in Nov '79. They fitted 4-seater sidecars to Japanese 100cc 2-strokes, with neutral before 1st, and call them tricycles! Their capacity, before using the pillion seat, is two passengers facing forward and two passengers facing rearward. (2 Filippino passengers=1 western visitor passenger)

In Mindanao they have a different type, called a quadtralia, with a leaf-sprung two-wheel axle running just behind the rear bike wheel.

I didn't really notice the Motorcycle-taxis, which are motorcycles with extended seats and extra shock absorbers added at the rear.

While in the Philippines I took the common "trike" taxi - as you can see from the video, these things were all over the place - and all had similar mounts for the sidecars!

When I was there model Concords (with token dropped snout) were a common hood ornament on jeepneys, and tricycles. Kinda mixing the swift with the slow.

Religious icons, including transfers deeming to depict JC, featured prominently. It may be that spiritual protection, or a hint of it, is used to encourage passengers to board what is basically dangerous as public transportation.

I´ve rode in one of those too.I remember one day how we load a "tricy" with three adults and two child ,and the driver of course.The small side was able to ride on flat road,but when faced a little hill,the bike simply could´t still climbing and the engine worked rev up,whith a terrible sound,so the driver looked at my friend,who is quite fatty, and said that if wanted to go up the hill on the tricy he had to pay double!!! You had to see my friend face!! he get furious and finally go up the hill walking and blaming those small bikes...
