Question Hack mounts?

So I'm looking at trying a hack for shits and giggles......ok i admit my dog would really dig it. Thing is i can't find mounts for my next bike.....most likely a KLX 250 S.

When i bought the DR 650, i ride now i couldn't get mounts either, But i hear daughtless sells them now. Already took a deposit on the DR. sooo.....

250 is small but i rode a honda dream 125 (scooter) with a four seat hack for 250 Km in thiland last year and it never blew. (i've got pics if anyone is interested.) Besides i don't mind regearing and running 45 for trips to the store.

So question is how hard is it to fabricate the mounts? I'm pretty solid with my ARC welder/grinder/tourch just not sure of the angles and specs i should be shooting for. I've looked at alot of pictures but i need to see it in person or on paper. Any ideas? Rod #s or best alloys?

Also does anyone have any thought on a steel sputnik side car i found one close by 4sale.....no mounts to copy though.

Thanks

Check out my website, adventuresidecar.com . go to the Articles page, look at "assembling the fleet and you will see what I did.

Read Hal Kendall's manuals, available on line at sidecar.com

Look at what Jay (Dauntless) does for the KLR. Draw up a rough sketch of how you think you might adapt these ideas to your bike. Consult with Jay at Dauntless, or Claude Stanley or Gary(don't have his website info handy but you can contact him through Hack'd Magazine). Any of these guys can help you fab a subframe and mounts and will have the pieces you need to do so.

Jay at Dauntless has struts and also slip joints that adapt the Sputnik lower mounts to hiem joints.

The Sputnik is a good, economical car and not too heavy. A Velorex or Cozy might be an even better match for the 250.

Yes, Gary Haynes is based in W Va.
Unless plans have changed Gary and Chris Dodson are in route to Oregon or possibly there already.
You can try emailing Gary at :
garyoldfriend@yahoo.com
or try:
hackdmag1@yahoo.com
I am doubtfull if Gary will do a dual sport type hack.
