Day ride from Birmingham, AL

I'm heading over to Birmingham for the 1st. I'm picking up a used dirtbike on the 2nd. I might bring one of my dual sports with me and check out the area.

I've been looking at my maps and it looks interesting to the West and the East. Just looking for a point in the right direction.

I might bring the F650 twin or the DR650.

From B'ham you can go south toward Tuscaloosa and ride around the Oakmulgee Wildlife Mgt area. It's got lots of good, scenic roads suitable for any DS including GS's. Or go around Talledega and Cheaha and ride the Skyline Drive. The southern end is rough and very rutted in places. The northern end is mostly smooth, gravel roads.

Thanks. I'm thinking about staging in Tuscaloosa to start out, and then move up to Birmingham for the weekend. Planning on checking out both areas.
