Software a)on road b) offroad Choices choices

...read the whole "which GPS do I buy thread"
...bought 60CX ($249@ Cdn. Tire)

Now need software for my needs.

Considerations
a) On road (salesman)
b) offroad (general DS use, KLR, primarily SW Ontario/Canada)

On road it is important for me to see the latest roads, quality updates are also a plus, be it yearly or whatever.

Off road, will be laying down tracks and following tracks I've picked up from fellow inmates.

Sorry to ask such basic questions but I haven't found a clear discussion of software here.

Get City Navigator NT,it covers the roads very well and covers a suprising amount of offroad stuff too.
You will have to look at Garmins map coverage detail to determine
if the North America or Canada version is best for your needs.

The software to get will be Mapsource for the PC or Roadtrip for the mac. Garmin is also releasing a new program called Basecamp that should provide more functionality for off-road users (geocachers, hikers, etc.).

As far as mapsets, I would go with city nav NT (updated yearly) for the street and try it for the dirt. If it doesn't work then get topo for the off-road stuff.

I have been looking at CN-NT among others.

Anyone have expereince with NT in Canada/Ontario?

I have heard varrying stories about different maps and their effectiveness in Canada, especially in the country/rural areas. ...the last place you want to be sent down a mule trail. LOL

In my part of Ontario, anyway, the Ibycus Topo has way more detail than the Garmin Topo Canada 2, and it's free.
