Wii Hack Racing Anyone?
Okay, it is Sunday morning and I'm bored. I get the KLR back around noon and boredom will go away then.
In the mean time, I was thinking about the Wii we just got. My wife bought it for exercise and I poo-pooed it at first. Then I spent an hour last night trying to master bowling and ended up having a blast, plus my heart rate was definitely elevated. I will definitely spend more time with this. ![]() So, I got to thinking. What if we built a frame for a F2 or MX racing sidecar, took balance boards and built a racing game such as, oh what the heck, the Pike's Peak Hill Climb? Not only would it be great exercise, but you could train for the race at the same time! Heck, you could even hook it up to the Net and have multi-player races! ![]() I'm not a graphics guy but I am a programmer. I'm going to research this some more.

We have a Wii. It is great fun.

It has to be a 2 player game. And the trick will be to program it so if the passenger leans the wrong way (beginners always do that), then they crash.
I'm ready to play!

That is the cool part of the balance boards. Too much weight on one side is detectable. You would definitely know when the passenger is in the wrong place.
Unfortunately, Nintendo won't sell the software development kit to mere programmers. You have to have a CV of game programs under your belt and show that you have the financial backing to bring a game to market - so much for a good idea.

So screw the Wii and develop it on the PC.
Wii controller hardware is readily recognizable on the PC platform and development is much easier.
