Its In!!!

What a beautiful day to ride…even though it was RAINING!!! It started out at about 530 AM when I got up to get ready to meet up with some guys at the Morrow County OHV park. I walk outside and its raining…so I figured I should be a nice guy and put my buddy’s (Travis) riding gear inside the truck instead of leaving it outside in the bed of the truck to get wet. 6:50 rolls around and we leave town.

We get to Heppner at about 8 where we are meeting up with 5 other guys that showed up around 840, not late however we were just extremely early.

Sitting waiting...

All of our junk for the day!!!

We get to GD’s restaurant and lounge for breakfast by about 8;45.

About 10 o clock the food is FINALLY ready …they were not very busy either but we had to wait for the cook. I recall a comment from one of the guys saying they wouldn’t put this on their list of places to eat because it took forever.

Yam Wow with the usual chicken fried steak...

Breakfast is over and we head towards the park. Unload, get ready to ride, and leave at noon.

The first ˝ mile of trail we hit was just flat nasty covered in mud and it quickly turned into a mutual decision to turn around and ride the road that didn’t look so bad for a little while.

Yam Wow's seat after only about 4 miles..

A few pics of the guys riding and a few breaks to

Richard got a rock stuck between his chain and counter sprocket and we werent sure exactly how the KTMs came off...but luckily we ran into the first riders we met all day and they helped us out!

The guy that helped us just HAPPENED to be on a KTM also..

the mud was so thick that travis' bike stayed standing with no kickstand!

but after 10 minutes for some reason the mud gave in and the bike came crashing down, breaking the bracket that held the clutch lever! ...a few zip ties later we were back at it!

Shortly after then the rain hit so here we huddled under the close trees to let some of it pass before continuing

Right after this we take a break and realize that NOBODY KNOWS WHERE WE ARE!! So, we pick a trail and keep riding!
Eventually we ran into a few bikes and they point us in the right direction... but only 3 out of 7 of us make it up the hill that we have to go up...so we try to find another way around it.

After about an hour we realize, theres no other real option at this point, so we head back to the nasty hill. Everyone eventually made it up this time since there was about 10 minutes for it to soak up...not that it did much good, and we kept on truckin!
Well we got into some pretty nasty hills and Allan had to ride a few bikes up them...he seems to have long legs and in the mud he can get traction and just go up like nothing! this happened to be the first hill I have ever not wanted to finish to the top, but at this point I was tired and hungry and couldn't do it! It was about 530 and I hadn't eaten since 6...I had to eat before I left town.

the top of the hill...with the traditional pose...

At this point we are hoping this is the correct route...two of us 7 chose not to follow up the hill and hoped the gravel road led to the truck. We keep moving with occasional rain bursts. My tires happen to SUCK in the mud and don't clear out so I spent more time sideways in the mud and on the ground then going straight down the trail and on two wheels...after enough hits on the ground the factory bars gave in. We are still lost, and it is NOT fun to ride with bent bars!!!

after another hour or so we run into these guys on 4 wheelers and get directions to camp!

And the 5 of us head back to the truck hoping the other 2 found there way...

It just so happened they had been at the truck for about 20 minutes waiting for us!!! yay!
all in all it was absolutely AMAZING!!! as is every ride no matter what...the only damage that I am aware of is my bars, i bent my shifter lever(easy fix) and my buddys clutch lever bracket. I needed a reason for new bars anyways! Too bad I didnt break my rear taillight assembly so I could redo that!!!!

Nice ride report Lil Magoo! Boy am i glad i didn't go. I'm not a big fan of mud. In fact I'm thinking that if it doesn't dry out a bit i may not go next weekend for the poker run!

Looks like a good ride. No dust!

Are those knobbies or dual sport tires under the mud?

Sweet ride! I had more fun Saturday than all year. I can't wait to go back. I know a few guys that will have new tires and a Gps on them. Good set of guys to ride with. By the way I don't wan't to see a set of bars on Ebay for sale "almost like new".

Drysiders! Around here, (wetside), if we didn't ride in mud we don't ride.

Good report, thanks for changing from the red font, I was having a stroke trying to read it.
Looks like a good time.

good write up

Ryan, thanks for taking the time and puting the write up together. The ride and company was outstanding, been awhile since I had seen the mud. I think we should call it the swine ride, like pigs playing in the mud. PS liked the sound of your bike.
