I heard somewhere that a hockey puck makes a good extension for the kick stand. So on our recent trip to the Canadian Rockies I found one in a store and just mounted it. It even stays out of the way of the exhaust. SWEEET ! :clap

New BMW owner here. New to me 2004 1150 GS with 22,000 miles. Do all of these bikes lean so far when on the kick stand. Looks like it's going to fall over. (Exact opposite problem I have with my 2010 KLR 650) The hockey puck looks like a good idea for the BMW. Does it still lean enough to be stable when the bags are loaded?

    Also, any other tips?

    Thanks.

These suckers really do lean a lot..and are a bugger to get upright on awkward surfaces...hence the puck. Works great with loaded bags. I wish I had done it earlier and also I wish could remember who to give credit for the idea !

    Yup!:D

We just finished a 2500 mile loop thru Canadian Rockies and we stopped at a town called Coombs on Vancouver Island. It had goats on the roof..Bizarre....just had to "get the sticker".

Ever since I got my 1150 I"ve been using a block of wood...well a few blocks now because the wood wears out. 5/8ths seems to be a good thickness...3/4 seemed to be too thick. A hockey puck seems almost too thick?

Great idea. My GS has a scary lean to it also. The puck looks to degrease the angle and provide a bit more surface area for softer ground.
If I buy a non BMW puck, will it void my waranty? ;)

I recently installed a puck. I have to be a little careful when first dismounting the bike if since I have the suspension setup soft. It's pretty vertical with my weight still on the bike/the suspension sagged. It's just right when it stretches back up after I dismount. I have an '04 Adventure. No luggage on it since I installed the puck.

You'd need to thank about 500 people over the years :D

No need to use bolts - just drill two or three holes through the foot plate and screw some self tapping screws into the puck.

I used 1 1/4 inch screws that countersink on the bottom of the puck and then locking nuts on the top. I decided against using just wood screws because they would come out eventually and then, knowing my luck, they would punction my tire.

Eileen...sweet name. Mine is now named Norlean.

After installing Wilbers on my 2004, I had to use a puck because the shocks jacked the bike up, resulting in a radical lean angle

    Works good

    Great idea.

I ran over to the sporting goods store (used pucks available!). They're only $3.95 (plus 32 cents tax).

So, then I think, well, I should support my local dealer. I run over to the local Beemer shop. Ooooh, a customized puck with the dealer logo...in RED...for only $17.99.

So, of course, I order one online for only $7.50 (plus $12.95 shipping).

Ah, the wonders of Net shopping!:rofl

    (Spent $15 in gas, too.)

When I tried this on my 06 GS, the thickness of the puck was way too much. The bike stood up way too straight. A lot of our roads here in SoCal have quite a bit of crown to them and I found I had to cut the thickness down to half before the bike felt stable enough for me.
