I'm soliciting advice on what to see and where to ride. Looking forward to some beautiful scenery. my tenative trip
The standard, Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands and Monument Valley. Less known is Hovenweep, Goblin Valley and Valley of the Gods. Route 12 through Escalante & Kodachrome Basin, oh hell, it's all good. Just go and wander, don't plan anything except lots of water. If Utah had some oceanfront it would be the most perfect place in the world.
Your map shows your going near Durango but not into Durango and it doesn't look like your going up through Silverton and Ouray. That is a must if you havn't been there before. You can take the road out of Ridgeway just north of Ouray over to Moab and take in Telluride also. The area from Durango to Ridgeway back down to Cortez is one of the most beautiful areas in the country. It looks like your wanting to take in the Mesa Verde NP. It is not that far out of Durango. We have made Durango a base point on trips to take in all of that area. Mil T
I've ridden the million dollar highway before and enjoyed that but on a cruiser. Any dirt road suggestions are gladly accepted.
Nothing to see in Utah. Just kidding. Are you going to be on a Vstrom? There is plenty of dirt to be had, but the Vstrom may be challenged by some of it. If you are truly interested, I can get you across the state on mostly dirt.
I would be very interested in that. I really want to see the parks and some nice sights in the south. Yep, it's the vstrom. And no, I'm not the best off road rider.
Rode through Utah last summer for 8 days and loved it. The state web site has great info on the parks. Goblin Valley had some nice roads and a weird park. Canyonlands and Arches full of dirt roads. Super riding. Take a water bottle. You can't go wrong there. Area around Moab was good for everything, enough parks that you weren't crowded. Zion just OK, my least favorite. Don't over-plan, too many interesting places to see in that state. Enjoy!
