I know this one doesn't qualify as it's not on the PA Marker list
but it has an interesting story so I'll add it. I don't care if it
counts towards my marker total either. Just thought it was interesting.

I travel that road quite a bit. It's a good way to get to the river. I never noticed that sign.

The Gantz Oil Well marker in Washington is missing. If you look at the location on StreetView you will see an empty pole. It looks the same now, almost 2 years since the StreetView shot was taken. Also, should the "other" Bradford House marker be listed as "Missing" since it was taken out of service and replaced with the current one? It's an unusual situation, I'm not sure how it should be handled for recordkeeping.

I have a few from Brownsville, Fayette County as well. I haven't gone through there in earnest yet, but since Brownsville was just across the bridge I decided to investigate.

Are all these in one day? If so, that is an awesome ride.

    Great pics!

Thanks! Yes one day, the day before Memorial Day - I designed the trip around the markers. I've done several of those in the past year and I rather like it. It makes for a diverse ride; country, city and everything in between. This one was a little over 7 hours end to end from my place.

By any chance did you you take photos of the marker subjects to include? There were several interesting markers that would be interesting to have seen the subject. If you have any, could you please include? Thanks.

When I started the WV Historical Markers Tag, I asked all contributors to take a few photos of the subject - makes it more interesting, in my humble opinion.

I like the way our West Virginia friend thinks. Let's see if we can step this thread up a bit and include some pictures of what the marker is talking about, if possible. At least try to dig up a link to more information about the subject.

Greetings from West Virginia. As the founder of the WV Historical Markers thread back in 2009, I have found marker hunting and the historical research associated with it to be very interesting. You guys in PA sure are blessed with lots of markers and history.

Our son just married a PA girl (Shippensburg) last month, so we were around that area and Caledonia State Park for several days. Beautiful area and lots of markers.

My wife is going to be out of town visiting family for a few weeks in mid-late July, so I am planning a ride/camp to Franklin County (Shippensburg/Chambersburg) to photograph all markers in that county. I just wanted to check to make sure nobody had Franklin County on their radar scope over the next few weeks. I'd hate to do all the planning and then find out someone posted them all the night before I leave. :lol3 That would be my luck.

Anyhow, if you see an old guy on a Burgman 650 Scooter taking marker photos in mid-late July in Franklin Co and along Historic Rt 30 from York to Pittsburgh, wave - it's probably me.

    Thanks!
