Bomb Proof... reasonably priced watch

I'm looking for suggestions.
I currently own a Cartier Tank Chrono... cost of battery
change and gasket ( O Ring) replacement and basic service...$650. CAN.
I've owned Rolex & Panerai. I no longer want to carry the price
of a good scooter on my wrist.

Any and all suggestions for rough, waterproof, under $600 timepieces
welcome and appreciated.

I have a Timex Expedition that I've used for 2-3 years now for backpacking, m/c touring. I got it on sale for $30.

I love the watches available on www.watchbuys.com. These are German watches, usually with ETA or Valjoux movements with German cases. You can get a great buy on a really solid watch that is still unique and not a Seiko or a Citizen, and is still an automatic movement,,,so no batteries. That being said, I wear a GShock that i bought 18 years ago before i left for OCS still to this day when I am in the field... i think I have replaced the battery 4 times and the strap once.

Have always had great luck with Swiss Army. The one currently on my wrist has pretty much been worn since I bought it 11 years ago and I've had absolutely no problems with it and keeps perfect time.

Beefy, indestructible watch. It's a seriously large piece of equipment. Weighs almost 6 oz.



I have this one (quartz) and one of the GSAR mechanical ones as well.

The GSAR has a slightly smaller diameter and a nice little ETA movement, but is just above your posted price point.

WTF is wrong with a Timex? Tells time within a few seconds per week, uses cheap batteries available everywhere, and costs less than a night at the pub.

Nobody is going to mug you for your Timex. Break it? Oh well!

And, yeah, I have expensive watches. They sit at home.

Tissot T-Touch. I've had one for a few years, treat it mercilessly, and it hasn't missed a beat. It has some nice functions too.

I have beat the shiite out of mine for 10 years and my dad has done the same for 35; they are bulletproof, no nonsense and classic.

At the end of time there will be cockroaches and Seiko Divers watches.

Take a look at Suunto.

I sold them for years and never had an unhappy customer whether they were a first time buyer or otherwise. They might be a different build than what you're looking for but you'll have choices on types of bands/colors. Of course, the more expensive they are, the more gadgety. I did the same thing, got a Rolex Explorer and have watched my watch :huh, sit in a box and tell me the time.

With only minor exceptions, the only watch that's been on my wrist for the last three years is a Traser 6500 tritium. I think I paid $150 for it on sale from LA Police Gear, and it's weathered all sorts of offroad, onroad, weather, water, and working conditions. I replaced the battery myself for like $8 IIRC. If I ever break it, I'll get another.

My wife is the Destroyer of Watches, Ender of Timepieces. Seriously, she can reduce a watch to rubble in under a month. I honestly have no idea how she does it, but she's like a garbage disposal for watches.

Until...

I bought her a stainless steel Swiss Army watch last Christmas and it still looks new. Even the band.

So if I were in the market for a good-looking, decently priced, rugged watch, I'd look for a Swiss Army. Maybe in a manly titanium or something.

Personally, I can't ride with a watch on. It bugs my wrist somehow and gets in the way under the glove.

Love my Suunto. I won it in a raffle. Best purchase I ever made . The Breitling only comes out for nice occasions now.

I know...I know...

But I have to say. I've had my Explorer for years, and have abused and abused it. There isn't a better investment out there. It actually appreciates.

Bomb proof and zero maintenance, i was starting to worry about my Automatics, i don't like batteries, so this seemed ideal.
